Good evening, folks!

Just couldn´t keep my fingers away from the bike last night.

Realized that I really need an open 4-4 system on my caféracer.....  ;D

Jumped right into it and it should be finished by the end of next week.

Here´s a small preview.

Cheers

Daniel, I am really impressed with your work. I and I am sure everyone else would like to see how they look from the side. Also how you constructed them. Also, are the original down pipes in your pictues re chromed???

Pics from the side will come as soon as they are finished. Also full info on construction....

The stock downpipes are not rechromed. They will now go on the shelf along with the 4-2 silencers. Will keep them for the MOT-tests  ::)

Daniel, I looked at your photos and you work is first class and I would really like to see how that exhaust looks. My pipes are original and i like the 4-4 look, but there is just so many times you can patch the bottoms.

Yeah... But will it help you beat a hopped up Norton???
Kidding.
Looks great. May want to look into some kind of crossover setup, though.
No.

Thanks!

The Sito silencers are excellent quality! Very silent, though. Feels like they might stifle the top end a bit :(

Will try the new 4-4 to see what happens performancewise. If it works I´ll look into modifying the Sito´s for some better breathing, 8)

I LOVE the classy look of the Sito´s! The 4-4 will look more lika a CR750 exhaust as it will have short meggas and will be flat black....

I don't want to make you feel uncomfortable...but I think I'm in love with your bike. ::)

Truly your own bike, that's the way custom should be done. Nice work my man

Thanks!

Would like to see some pics of the bike in your avatar. Looks cool!

No... but it will probably scare that Norton back to England  ;)
Seriously, I´m still gathering info for the engine hop-up.
Will probably be an 836 with a ported head, CR-carbs and a hot cam. That is if I can´t find pistons for my 67 mm, 895 cc cylinder.... 8)

Ok, this evenings work is done, and here they are.

Will sandblast and paint them next week as I´m heading to Stockholm for the weekend.

Will also make some polished stainless steel heatshields for them to give them at least some shine.

They are loud but have a deep, deep note. Sounds really good actually!

Price so far: 10$ for the glasspacking.... will be another 10$ for the paint.  8)

Doesn´t look as good and classy as the 4-2 but definetly more rock n´roll... and the sound is badass!

Cheers

Deep, huh? I'm guessing the glasspacks eliminate the "popping" associated with open exhaust? Could you compare the sound to something commonly known? Or better yet, record the sound and post it somewhere on the 'net for all to hear.

Thanks, but no thanks, I´ll keep my dayjob for now  ;)

Anyway, I believe that most people does not need someone to make stuff for them.

Most (if not all) can do it themselves if they put their mind to it and give it a shot.

It´s not that difficult!

And it´s so fulfilling to make your own stuff  :)

These pipes were made in approximatly 8 hours in total so time should not be an issue if you can give it a couple of weeks...

Price? 10$ so far (glasspack..) Paint, perhaps 10 more. Total: 20$  :D

Nope, not stainless. Chromed steel.

If Honda had made them out of stainless steel, all restorers would have been happy campers  ;)

Dont think I will.

This is just a hobby and I think I would be kind of bored by doing the same thing over and over.

Plus, I find it hard to believe that anyone would actually pay anything for them.

The "blueprint" is already here and free for anyone to copy! :) Go ahead and do it!

It really just makes me proud if anyone think my ideas are good and worth using... 8)

So go ahead Proteal, advocate my ideas but lets keep the crazy profits out of the deal  ;D

It´s difficult to compare to something else.

It´s very different from a 4-1 of course.

Not so different from a stock exhaust with removed baffles, perhaps slightly louder but not as "metallic" due to the glasspacks.

Would probably be difficult to record it with any kind of decent soundquality, due to the loudness. Could give it a try, though...  :)

How do you keep your ears from bleeding? I fired up my 400F with nothin' but a header and I still can't hear.

I always use earplugs when I ride, even if the bike is quiet.

This sound is also very different and not nearly as loud as a bike with just headers.

I do not mind loud bikes (or cars..) as long as they have a good sound.

Straight pipes (dragpipes on a Harley or a Honda for instance...) does not sound well in my ears.

To "metallic" and "thin" with no depth.

A friend of mine ran Kerkers 2-2 on his Bigtwin and they sounded great!

Thanks for all your input, guys!

Cheers

Ok, finally done!

Got the pipes sandblasted today (10$) and bought some high temp black paint (11$).

Beat some heatshields out of some stainless sheetmetal I had laying around.... (0$)

Painted the pipes and mounted them straight away.....

Total cost of the project: 31$.... :)

Looks decent, sounds GREAT!

Here´s how they came out.... only pics from the mobile, though... better pics tomorrow!
