How do i hook up a dwell meter?
« on: August 09, 2006, 02:51:04 PM »
Ok, i broke down and obtained a dwell/tach meter.

How do i hook it up?  does it hook up to the coil and then just a ground? or do you hook up to points somehow?  if to the coil, which wire?  there seems to be a bunch of wires coming out of the coils.

i've down the feeler gauge, but have no idea how to hook up the dwell meter.

Connect the meter's red wire to the points wire, right at the points. The other one goes to the engine case (ground). That's all there is! Be sure to select 4-cylinder mode or double the 8 cylinder reading (not like I didn't in a recent post.   :-[  ).

not sure if this is a stupid question - does it matter which end of the points?

Is the connection the same for checking RPMs?

Connect to the points where the wires bolt on to them. And, yep, that's the same for checking RPM.
