I never quite thought of it like that, compared to everything else Honda had in 79 the 650's were pretty impressive.  I almost made the mistake of buying a CX500 before I got the 650, until I rode it.  I never knew that it was possible for a 500cc bike to be so slow, it had plenty of torque, but just seemed to make a lot of noise and go nowhere.

Yeah mate, I'm thinking that you should start a thread stating that you think that your  CB650 is the most impressive bike ever made. (by Honda in 1979)

If you think about it, 1979 was a terrible year for Honda, their first DOHC bikes were rubbish, CX500's were overweight underpowered slugs, their dirt bikes sucked royally, and apart from the Goldwings, I can't think of any Honda from 1979 that I'd be proud to have in my garage.

Now while some here wouldn't consider the 650 the ultimate SOHC4, for that dreary dark year of mechanical nothingness, otherwise known as 1979, it'd probably be considered very impressive! ;D

Terry, My '78 CX lifts the front tire in first and second if I want it to, so mine must be different from your Maggot.
With Murray's carbs on yours I would imagine yours should be much more entertaining now.
The brakes in stock form on the CX really suck (very scary brakes), popping a dual piston caliper from a GL500I on the bike helps and opens up higher friction HH pads to the brake padselection.

Well I think I've mentioned once or twice that some Americans don't take the time to pause and wonder if perhaps I'm just kidding, but I just can't understand why Tim would be upset, being that he's not actually an American?

Tim is an Argentinian, who's lived in America (and now Australia, the country he loves so much to run down) and as much as Argentina is a third world toilet propped up by a succession of corrupt governments funded by Nazi war criminals who chose Argentina as a good place to hide from the rest of the free world, I can't for a moment understand why he'd be so upset by my gentle ribbing about another country? I mean, plenty of real Americans have read my post without thinking for a moment that I was serious? Wow.

Do all Argentinians have thin skin? Perhaps one of Dr Mengele's experiments gone wrong?

And yep, I've mentioned in several previous posts that my magnificent 'Wang was made in the USA, and that I imported another engine from Michigan, so no prizes for guessing that Tim......

Anyway, 'Evening all! ;D

Did I say something untrue Terry?  ;D ;D ;D

Sorry mate, my heritage is Scottish, Irish, and Russian. No nazi's in the woodshed.

I love Australia.

The world would be a better place without nations feeling they are somehow superior to others.

Terry, I am an American and I get it. I am also a New Yorker, a people loved around the US since busting balls is a fine art.  You are known for how well you can dish it out, and how well you can take it. Now go down to the billybong, and tie me Kangaroo down, and have a Waltz with Matilda while you are at it.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

  • So, what do ya wanna talk about today?
Morning all! Tim, I'm glad you've changed your tune, for a non-American, you were really sounding like a "Texan Wannabe" back in your previous post. Enjoy your time in Oz, the biggest (and most impressive) Island on Earth!

Pete, the "Rolladoor" was a fragile piece of crap, and if you can find one of the thousands made still on the road now, it'll have had at least one rebuild, if not a couple. Sorry mate, but the DOHC 4's were less than impressive, especially in 1979. (CB1100R excluded, of course, but it was an entirely different bike)

Killer, I watched a documentary on the History channel about what might have happened to Hitler and all things pointed to him being spirited away to Argentina too, but the allies covered it up because it would have been a major embarrassment. They were able to DNA test the "remains" that the Russians removed from Berlin in 1945, and they didn't match any of his relatives, so it looks like he might have had the last laugh?

Dave, (Raffy) I could lift the front wheel of my CX500 every time I put it on the centrestand, it was easy! But to be fair, even though it weighed as much as a CB750 and had the same horsepower as a CB450, (uuuggghhh) with Murray's 34mm Mikuni carb conversion and a straight thru exhaust system, it can be a fun bike, but the 650 with another 18 BHP is a much better bike, just butt-ugly.

If I hadn't bought my BMW K100RS SE I would have installed the 650 engine in my Custom, and with Murrays carbs and my pipes, it would have done proper wheelies! Oh, and "Dude" is a pretty common term here too, so I don't know if that's a hint to someone's true identity.........

G'Day Bobby, yeah, if Tim knew that my ancestors were Irish rebels who were transported to Oz for taking on the might of the English army in the Irish Rebellion of 1798, he'd understand that I have no love for Britain, nor do I have any English ancestry. It's good fun taking the piss out of him though.......... ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

"Crazy is a very misunderstood term, it's a fine line that some of us can lean over and still keep our balance" (thanks RB550Four)

I know what you're saying Terry about the rolladoors, but the 900f and 1100f I had from new back in the day were thrashed and abused to within an inch of their lives and never let me down, so I have only good things to say about them.
The 1100r is of course the most impressive bike honda made in '82 as you'd have to agree  ;D
