Cleaning between the fins of a really dirty engine
« on: August 04, 2013, 08:53:40 AM »
You can scrub the crud out of the recesses between the fins of your engine by making your own "giant Q-tips".  All you need are some thin, stiff sticks (I use the bamboo skewers left over from one of those fruit baskets relatives send when they don't want to bother finding out what you really want).  Any fabric store or Wally craft department will have polyester batting for quilters (my wife quilts, so we have an entire basement full of rolls of batting -- complements the entire garage full of Honda stuff).  Get the coarse, loose batting that feels slightly abrasive to the touch.  Pull a little bit off the bat, coat the end of one of your sticks with super glue (gel works best), and twist the batting onto the glue.  After the glue sets, twist it down so it stays put.  Use your favorite solvent, and get in there and scrub the little recesses you thought were impossible to get clean.

I may be goin' to hell in a bucket, but at least I'm enjoyin' the ride. . .
