Oil Pump Dowel Pin CB550
« on: August 13, 2013, 11:15:30 AM »
Does anyone know where to find a replacement dowel pin that goes inside the oil pump? My oil pump is missing one and it is leaking oil everywhere. I've also seen them called an o-ring collar. The oil pump should have two of them and they add support to each of the small o-rings. The dowel pin is in the lower right of the attached picture.

Thanks.

Steve

Have you tried looking up the part number and seeing if Honda still sell it?

The dowel pin is not available from Honda anymore. I checked with one of the local junkyards, they want to sell me the whole pump for $60...

whats wrong with it that you need to replace it?

are you sure its not still stuck to the side of the case (engine case not the oil pump case)?

Since the oil pump was leaking oil already, sounds like a PO mystery missing optional part situation.  :P

Thanks for the tip to the CMS site. Unfortunately shipping is $42 so the search continues.

The part was missing when I took the pump off. The PO tried a ton of sealant on top of the o-rings though. He even had sealant on the sprocket cover. I found a brass tube at the local metal supply that might work but the wall thickness isn't as thick as the original. I'll probably give it a shot if I can't find an original part.

Same part for 500/550/650 so you ought to be able to find a used one somewhere, I'm in UK so as you found shipping kills one from here

try local hardware store to see if you can find something of similar or same size in the plumbing department? or put up wanted ad in the classified section?

$42?!!! That's crazy, no way does it cost that much. I guess they charge a minimum, that sucks.
