$19.57
« on: August 10, 2006, 03:39:13 PM »
-the cost of a fill up on my BMW. I was coming home from the Sturgis Pickup and Trailer rally today, ran my Beemer down pretty low and that's what it cost. If I'd have noticed before I shut the pump off I could have squeezed enough in to hit that magic $20 mark. I know there have been threads on this before, but sheez.....

Watched a guy put a $100 in his brand new F Super Duty the other day. Should say he STOPPED at $100. May have some buyer's remorse.

The way I (perhaps misguidedly) look at it is this: gas, petrol, call it what you will, is not going to get any cheaper. We at least have the pleasure of riding machines which have enough grin-per-mile quotient to soften the ache caused in the wallet when we fill up.

I WAS biting the bullet big time with my 99' Dodge Conversion Van (360ci motor w/ about a 36 gal tank). I was filling it up when it got down to 1/2 tank (average about 3-4 days)and that was running between $45-55. Once, I accidentally let it get down to 1/4 tank and it cost me about $88 to fill it up. Now that I have swapped it off for a Grand Caravan w/ 3.8L motor and 4sp auto transaxle, I'm getting about 17 or so mpg in town. My gas costs have been cut in 1/2 easy. Now, when I can get my 750/sidecar on the road, I should be able to come down some more. Later on, Bill

yep, i can beat most of the cars off the line and still get 55/gallon.
plus, it's just fun to pull in, put $9 in the tank and zoom off while all the SUVs around here just keep pumping and pumping.  i work with a couple of people who spend more on gas than i do on my car note and insurance.

...its crazy...riding used to be a fun and [seemingly] "cheap" past time.  That doesn't seem to be the case anymore.  I've been gathering materials to make a home still.  I'm trying to convince myself to take on the task of converting a 750 to run on straight alcohol!!!   ::)

How about running it on diluted alcohol where it passes through me first  ;D.
It keeps going up like this and we`ll have European gas prices here too. My truck with both tanks near empty is $150+  :o to fill up , which is why it`s only used to get feed and haul big things anymore.
