Found 2 great bikes yesterday
« on: August 22, 2013, 11:19:27 AM »
Yesterday, like most days, I drove quite a few miles for work.  While in my travels I found a small MC repair shop that works primarily on Rice Burners so I stopped in.  The mechanic said nothing was for sale but I know better than that.  Everything is for sale.

Outside, under a tarp, there was a Honda 350-four that was mildly Café’d.  I am told it runs but needs to be gone through.  It still had the factory paint on it and it was dull as could be.  He has $500 into it including the price he paid for it.  Also at the shop was a Suzuki GT750.  For those not in the know that is one bad a$s 2 stroke bike.  It was in all original condition and was last on the road in 2007.

Tonight I will start the process of wearing the owner down and trying to buy these bikes.  Based on the look of the shop, nothing gets finished here and I hate to see these old girls die like this.

Did you happen to notice what year the Water Buffalo was ? The later ones are actually a little smoother etc than the earlier. Good Luck on "Operation Wear Down"    ;)

Not to rain on your parade, but as the owner of a 1976 GT750, "bad ass" is not a term that comes to mind. It was actually pretty refined for the time: smooth, fair amount of torque, relatively quiet. Back in the day, a buddy had a '73 GT750 with chambers, clubmans, rear-sets, Dunstall seat and tank. I cannot remember if it was fast, but it was definitely loud and uncomfortable.

Up to about 80mph the two strokes were the fastest bikes out there. That makes the all bad ass.

Bob is correct.  I wouldn't call the Suzuki GT 750 "Bad Ass".  GT stood for Grand Tourismo and was a touring bike.  It was heavy and I don't think it was as quick as my K3.  I rode it and it certainly was not as nice a bike as the K3.
The "Bad Ass" bike you may be thinking of is the Kawasaki 2 stroke 750.  I rode that bike and it was quick - as was the Kawasaki 500 2 stroke.
I think that one of the nicest bikes of that era that I rode was the Kawasaki Z1.  Quick and smooth.  I wound up buying the Honda 750 instead of the Z1, I think, because of price.  I got my K3 for $1650.  I think Z1's were over 2K.
Here is a picture I took last Sunday of a "Water Buffalo" that I took last Sunday at the "Brit Jam" in Haddam CT.

If you want to make the GT750 really bad ass I can tell you how to get so much power out of it it will only do 6 miles per UK gallon of gas
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Yes, they shouldn't be underestimated, any 2 stroke of that size can be made to eat 750 Honda's, quite easily...

Most of these two stroke bikes sound so angry when they have expansion hamber exhausts on them.  Also you have to love the torque on them.
