New Guy from Boston
« on: August 08, 2013, 01:32:30 PM »
Hi All,
Been lurking for a long time, and have wanted 2 wheels for a long time aswell!
Well i finally got around to picking up my first bike. Its a 1977 CB550k. In fairly decent condition but she has a ways to go to be road worthy. Im fairly used to getting my hands dirty, but have been in the car world until now.

dont have many pics as there isnt much to see currently.
Still waiting on some parts from Old Bike Barn... So i havent even attempted to start the bike yet.

Goal is to get the bike road worthy for now. learn to ride, and make sure all the maintenance is good to go.
Then over the winter i might get into a more serious build.

Anyway, im really looking forward to it. And maybe ill meet some of you someday (Im in Quincy, not really Boston)

And there are even some in Quincy!  ;)

Anyway Id avoid Old Bike Barn as a Vendor - check out the Bad Reviews section here - plenty of other good vendors around at same/cheaper price.

Check out the local forum for the locals:

We have a monthly "beer" night in the Greater Boston area where we meet up and chat motorcycles and the like. Check out the local board for more info on the next one.

Hope to meet you soon,
cheers
Andy

Welcome!

Look at the good sellers, bad sellers list to know where to shop.  Some people had a good experience with Old Bike Barn, but there are better out there.

Thanks all.
Yea I stumbled upon some of the OBB reviews after I got curious why my parts hadn't shipped yet.
Anyway I contacted them and have a tracking number now at least.

I'm from dracut, close enough to boston to enjoy, but far enough away to be able to afford housing lol. I see you made the same mistake as me and picked up a 77 or 78. carbs are really tough to find parts for. let me know if you are looking for anything as i have been researching parts for my 78 for the past 8 months.

Thanks. I'll keep it mind.
Still trying to find out what I'm missing currently.
One question i do have is, Inside my airbox is literally just a filter. Should there be some parts under it like in the diagrams?

I think Roslindale takes the prize for most SOHCs per Boston Neighborhood!
