I have been set free! no more pods!
« on: August 10, 2013, 08:14:12 AM »
I installed my new custom airbox on my chopper (no its not a breadbox breather) I have never been so happy the bike is a lot quieter there is no noise when your flying down the road it runs better I'm kept my jets the same size I'm getting better throttle response. Everything is great. I will never use pods again I'm going to make one for my cb550 out of aluminum and see if I get the same results.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

It is my electronics box (santee box) the breather is a custom job it's based on the old bread box breathers. it uses stock boots I'm using a heavy density foam for the filter. The only bad thing is its a little heavy my sons friend does stainless steel and aluminum welding he said he would make some up for me I'm going to have him make them out of the aluminum. I thought about just making them for the cb750's first and then make one for my 550 to see how well it works on it. The plus is you can use your stock boots. Here are more pics of the tank

Nope, I don't hate choppers.  I do hate crappy looking chopped up pos's that have been senselessly hacked to look and perform worse than the stocker.  This can often be applied to cafes, brats, bobbers, street trackers, even stock restorations...and probably my bike too!  Everybody tries, most fail at the beginning.  Hopefully we learn from our mistakes and eventually end up with a great bike in the long run.

+1...choppas are cool.  Main reason I dont have one is they tend not to be good handling bikes, all roads around here are twisties.

James - that the tank your son painted, right?

A chopper set up PROPERLY with telescopic FORKS or maybe a girder frontend will handle just as good as stock. I know guys with 40+ degrees of rake and girder frontend on DENVER's frames that are hard to keep up with in the twisties of NC roads. Now when you talk springer that's a different story all together.. but some of the NEW springers handle just as well as forks, seems they have learned a few things since the first ones were used.  There are some TOP notch choppers using the CB750 engines If you have any doubt look in the  CHOPPERS section here.

yep, mostly straightish roads here in Michigan....but I generally stay off most of those roads and leave my hardtail buddies waaayyy behind.  Hardtails handle fine as long as the road is smooth...not many of those in Michigan either.

I would love to know how the one works for the 550. I may be interested in purchasing one if the price is right.
