Cb500 Rear Hub Question
« on: August 15, 2013, 07:30:04 PM »
Hey folks, my cb500 rear wheel assembly is roasty toasty. I thought i read on here some time ago that the cb500 is compatible with most cb450s and 550s from 71-76. Is this correct? If so, I can pick up a 74 cb450 rear wheel locally and fix my problemo. Thanks

Um...no, I don't think so. They have a wholly different cushioning system for the sprocket, among other differences.

Hmmmm. Is it a spacer issue then, or will only a 500 rear fit a 500 bike?

You can try this: go to www.hondaparts-direct.com, look up both the 500 and 550 rear wheels. When the parts list comes up, click on the PRINT icon and the entire history of the part numbers will come up in a viewable and printable form. Then you can compare all the swaps and revisions Honda made. It's pretty east to follow that way. I have whole catalogs of the PRINT pages as my parts guides, makes excellent reference tools for an hour of typing and browsing.  ;)

From fitting 500/550 71 to 76 will fit
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

So I have to look for at least a 550/500 replacement. That's a total bummer. The 450 wheel I can score is in mint shape!
