Expo 86 750K3 "The Gray"
« on: August 10, 2013, 04:26:51 AM »
In July 2013, I purchased a 750K3 that's been embalmed in concrete for 27 years - one of the machines from Vancouver's Expo 86 World's Fair.

I got "The Gray" for $100.  She had been sitting outside forever.  This is a long term restoration.  I hope to rebuild the bike to full working order first, then strip her down and repaint her as faithfully as possible to maintain her Expo appearance.

I've got her rolling, the transmission shifts but the motor is seized.  I pulled the carbs off, soaked them in gas to soften the latex, power washed away the cement and stripped them down.  The first three carbs were in quite rebuildable shape, but #4..  when I pulled off the float bowl it was full of crud like feta cheese.  The floats fell out.  It's going to be a long slog.

What a sad thing to do to a motorcycle, especially if it was in running order at the time.

Good luck with the resto.

That's for sure!  Look online for Expo 86 pictures - they sprayed a BMW with sidecar, some old sidevalve V twin with springer front end, about an 82 Goldwing - and planes, a radial engine Beaver on floats and a little Aerocoupe.  I used to fly and Man! that Aerocoupe broke my heart.  Oh, and they had Studebaker, one of the later last ones with the faux mid headlight in the hood like the Tucker steerable headlight.  So screw them, the wife and I didn't waste a ferry ride and hotel for the night to shell money out for that.

Thanks for the encouragement, I'll get her done.  And you know who'll be grinning then!
