Another Odd Sound From My Bike
« on: August 10, 2013, 01:00:49 PM »
Okay, its Sam again. I have a 1978 cb750f.
I was riding my bike today and i cooked it pretty hard, not near the red line or anything but still, and when i got back, i heard a slight gurgling sound from the top end of the motor. I figured this is just hot oil. BUT, since i have recently discovered this website and the beauty of the help that is provided when a question is asked, i figured i would check to see what you all think.

Do you think my bike is running hot?
Is the gurgling sound just oil?
And what should the average temp of the pipes and or motor after a 10 min ride or so?

Thanks in advance :)

But is the bike still running fine? I've never heard anything like that from either one of my 750's and at times I turn them up pretty good also. Just a guess but maybe what your hearing is the gas cap making a kind of a faint gurgling sound as the pressure is escaping. My bikes do this sometimes(more often when the tanks are near empty)and I wasn't sure what it was the first time I heard it either. Pop open the gas cap and it stops.

The bike is still running fine. It might be the gas tank. I can't help but thinking my bike is running pretty hot. I went for a 5 min ride the other day and the bike felt like it was a thousand degrees. Any ideas?

If you think you cooked the oil, just change it out. Its only 22 bucks for the oil. (Depending where you live)

It is possible to cook oil in any engine. You'll just get low oil pressure. I've done it on my jeep that has a turbo on the motor. I stayed at max boost running down the HWY for about 2 minutes straight. (I was chasing down a 350Z). Low oil pressure the rest of the day. Changed it out for 20/50W and fixed my problem.
I do tasks the most difficult way. My life is interesting.

I hear that gurgling sound sometimes after I've given my K1 a bit of a run - and I also hear it on my Moto Guzzis. It's the oil in the head draining back down into the crankcase.
