Not what I wanted to see..
« on: August 11, 2013, 07:53:57 AM »
Dang! Doing a routine inspection/cleaning on the 750 this morning. Wasn't planning on this but better on the lift than on the street.

Looks like a ride is on hold. Can't trust this.

Looks like a Dunlop F24 tire shop today.  ::)

A reflection of the diamond plate the bike is on.

How old are the tires ? Wasn't there a recent thread about new Avons cracking also ?

Well this is interesting. Tires were replaced by PO. I just noticed on the back is a tubeless tire running a tube.

The only size I can find is a 110-90-19. It has a 110-80-19 on it now. Would the (90) be wider?

I have no idea but there should be a date on them. I'll take a look.

Got it! Thanks. I can never remember. 110 is the width.

Well, that should work fine.

It should fit rim better as the 10% taller sidewall can flex into place easier May need slightly higher pressure

Yes, and I read it right after buying Avons for the Z1.

Toy - the date of manufacture will be after the letters DOT, week and year made.

Common practice to fit a tubeless tyre, with tube, to a spoked rim. But never a tube type without tube to a solid rim

These tires were on it when I bought it. History unknown.

Never noticed before as I keep an eye on tires. With the heat out here I'm not surprised. I have had wiper blades stuck to the windshield in the past.

So, that's an 11 year old tire.  No wonder it's cracking.  Definitely time for new rubber.

What did you come up with? 2002 I assume. Only thing I can make it out to be.

At any rate new tire, tube and rim strip ordered. I'll take it off later in the week when the new tire gets close.

Could of been a very bad day if out on a ride huh?

The date code is four numbers. The numbers preceding it is the North American ID number...
