Hi there
82 model 900ss. It was my only bike for a while when I got back into riding.
Now that I have few other bikes the  Duc doesn't get out that often,  but when I do ride it I love it.
The girls just bought me a Ducati sign last week that says "all others will be crushed". But I fixed it

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Double post time......... Well it was cold and miserable again today, but being the manly man that I obviously am, I braved the slings and arrows of outrageous weather conditions and whipped my dirty old "Wang out for a lazy 150 mile ride. I dropped in to see Steve K0 in Wallan first for a cup of coffee and a chat, then headed off into the frozen tundra.

I headed north, and took the Broadford exit, then east across to Yea (pronounced "Yay", not "Yeah") for another coffee and a couple of jam donuts, and a smoke. The lady that served me must have been bored because she came outside for a chat about my magnificent 'Wang, saying that she'd never seen one that big before? "I bet you have", I thought to myself, but being the gentleman that I am, I thanked her politely.

By now my bladder was full of second-hand coffee, so it was time to head for home. The 'Wang was in it's element cruising at 75 MPH at a leisurely 4000 RPM in 5th gear, and silently passing all and sundry, and whilst bitterly cold, the warm air coming off the engine provided some comfort as I rode west into the setting sun. All in all a lovely ride, and a nice way to spend an otherwise miserable Sunday afternoon. Cheers, Terry. ;D

G'day mate, nah, it was maybe 14 deg C when I left, and about 10 when I got home. I know it's nothing on your winters, but that's why my 'Wang's got almost 100,000 miles on the odo, and bikes on your side of the pond don't.......... ;D

You got that right :)  And USA is still better then Europe, the other day I realized I never had the need for mash jacket in Czechoslovakia, while in Virginia I park the leather in April and use it again in October.

My brother had never ridden Chief Joseph Highway, Beartooth, or the Going To The Sun road, so we decided to make it a trifecta last week.

US 150 through the Uintas in Utah seemed like a good start, a great road in its own right.

Great pics Greg, and that old CBR1000 looks to be in great condition, they weren't really appreciated here (overshadowed by Suzuki's GSXR1100 and Yamaha's FJ1200) but good bikes, just the same. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Thanks Terry.  The CBR is doing well, soon to hit 70,000 miles.  They didn't sell well in the U.S. either.  After 2 years, the Hurricane received a makeover in 1989, but Honda didn't sell them in the U.S. because there was still a supply of '87 and '88s still sitting at the dealers.  Mine is a '90, of which Honda only brought in 1000 bikes. 250 were painted like mine, the rest silver/black.  Subsequent years didn't sell well here either.  There was no '92 model sold in the U.S.  Too bad because build quality was better than its competitors.  But the ZX10/FJR1200/1100 Katana had more horsies, though the CBR has plenty, and the bike magazines damned the CBR with faint praise.  I bought mine on October 4, 1990, and 95% of the miles are touring miles.  The bike has one weak spot, and that is the cam chain tensioner.  They are good for maybe 35,000 miles, even after two updates by Honda. I replaced the one in mine the second time just before this trip.  No big deal, a couple hour job if you are not in a hurry.  But otherwise a great bike that still compares favorably with modern bikes.

The Hurricane section of the CBR forum has several Australian members who seem to be the most active riders of their old bikes.

+1, there's one just like that one at my favourite bike shop, in really good condition. The owner bought it from a museum in Queensland and Jeff at Ace Motorcycles is bringing it back to life for him, after sitting on a display stand for the last 20(+) years.

He told me that the new owner is going to "Cafe" it, and ditch those beautiful pipes, so I told him to tell the owner that I'll take the pipes if he wants to sell them. No idea what I'd put them on, but they're minty, so I'd hate to see them in the trash............ ;D
