I took the Interceptor out yesterday morning, wound up riding a few dozen miles of dirt roads around Pittsfield, NH about 50 miles from home.
I've seen this bike with stock suspension and the same Pirelli Phantoms go through nastier stuff in YouTube videos from India so I wasn't too worried about getting home.

Found a sunny flat spot to pull over for pics:

Nice!!

I used to live all over the state as a kid. At one point in Merrimack. Love the state (when it’s not covered in snow haha).

I have almost picked up an interceptor many times. My XSs havnt let me down yet, that’s the only thing that’s kept me from getting one.

Built one to take on dirt roads and on the beach here. Put some shinko 241s on it and they work pretty good off road, ok in the sand and surprising well on the highway. They are pretty soft, so maybe not too long of a life but we’ll see.

We had the Interceptor out and I think it needs a new regulator rectifier. 8)

Nice. I rode my 550F along a jeep road through Monument Valley, UT in 2017 and (unintentionally) rode my 750F up a winding dirt logging road in 2019. In both cases my street tires did fine on the dry dirt and my bars were tall enough to allow me to stand while riding, which makes a huge difference.

That’s a good looking XS650 mate, I’ve got one in my garage that I bought in 2019, got running, bought lots of new parts from Mikes XS from, and then forgot about again. I see you’ve got a 750 kit in yours, did you notice much of a difference? I’m thinking about installing one, and maybe stroking it as well? I’ve got a newish Royal Enfield 650 here and you’re right, it and the Yamaha are very similar power-wise, but the RE is way smoother. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Today I rode the 80' Suzuki GS 1100E for the first time. We just finished resurrecting it over the last 4 months. It was last on the road in 06'. I got a lap around the 12 mile test loop in before the rain showers showed up. 8)

Looks great mate, I see that you have Mikuni RS carbs on it, what do you think of them? I put a new set on my Kawasaki Z1-B with Moriwaki 1103cc kit, ported head, big valves, etc etc, and they didn't need any adjustment (apart from idle) and really woke it up. I'm tempted to put a set on a hotrod CB750 I'm thinking of building. ;D

Thanks buddy. So far I like them. We bought them because the stock carbs were unusable as well as the extra set we bought. The only adjustment was fine tuning the active sync and idle. Of course as soon as we finished this bike the weather turned from beautiful and sunny to cloudy with a chance of rain. I can't wait to get to know this bike better. First impression is it feels like riding a 750cc size bike until I twist the throttle then it's time to giggle in my helmet. And the Delkevic stainless exhaust system sounds freakin' awesome. ;D

Around 14 degrees celcius (57 farenheit). The CBX motor kicks out a bit of heat, so my feet and shins weren't cold!

It sure is! Having owned it for over 30 years, I don't look at it through rose tinted glasses. It's way too heavy & the handling is questionable, plus the brakes aren't very good. I'll never sell it though...

I haven't owned a CBX but remember coming up behind one on the road in 1979 and thought my 811 K6 would snuff it in a twist on... I had a rude awaking that day. Even when I down shifted a couple gears he just walked away from me. But I liked my bike and didn't want to upsize to that monster that was fresh out of the box.

57 F, just like I like. I don't do well too much above 70 F. It's summer here in New England and we've been getting in the 90-95 F. I have to put on a cooling vest above the mid 90s or ride in the cage...... my internal cooling system has always been like this and I'm not a overweight man, well maybe 20 lbs more than I'd like to be at....
This picture was 2018 on the Gentleman's ride in late September when it started in the high 30s snd finished in the low 50s. I was wearing my jacket liner under the sport coat and was comfortable though a bit nippy without a fairing on the bike early in the morning.

You could probably do a plug chop to verify but your pipes say(blue) you might be running a little lean on the jetting. A little richer would help on the colder starts too, not that 57F is too cold for the choke to fire it off easy if adjusted properly.

That's a beautiful bike Trevor, I never liked the later Pro-link model, but love the first ones. I still remember the cover pic of "Two Wheels" magazine with Kel Wearne and (name forgotten sadly) wheelstanding two 1979 CBX's at speed. ;D

not that 57F is too cold for the choke to fire it off easy if adjusted properly

The reluctance was due to the bike not being ridden for six weeks. The fuel loses some of its oomph when sitting in the float bowls for that long (the CBX will start instantly if I drain & refill the bowls). When it was my everyday transport (for a few years) it fired up easily every morning, even when it was 32F! Some people turn off the fuel just before they get home and run the carburetors dry, but I can never remember to do this...

The pipes are blue because they're really inexpensive and single wall, plus leaving it idling for too long on choke doesn't help. The original Honda pipes were double wall, which significantly reduces the blueing.

Sounds way better than Honda's other 6, my Valkyrie. You'd think a 6 cylinder boxer would sound great, but to me it sounds more like me farting after a "Mexicana" pizza washed down with a bottle of Ginger Joe......... ;D
