Thanks Bill & Terry. It was a bit of a chore at first and I had visions of scraped mufflers, bashed tank corners and bent levers but with a little clutch control I did better than I could have hoped. I did stall out once climbing uphill through a rocky washout that sloped off down to the right side. It was filled with fist sized rocks in mostly dry dirt & gravel, I was in 2nd gear and the situation called for 1st. I'd seen enough videos of dropped bikes on dirt roads & was paying attention to keep my right foot on the brake while leaning to the left to put my foot down after all momentum was lost. I grabbed some front brake and gently let the bike roll backwards to a spot where I'd have flatter ground on the right side to put my right foot down so I could find first gear and get going again.
It was all much easier than it looks in those videos, I guess I wasn't tired out from miles of off-roading maybe?
I'll be looking at some 70/30 or 60/40 type tires when that time comes. A little more confidence off the pavement will be nice and I understand even the chunky looking 60/40 (60% pavement/40% dirt) tires are smooth & quiet on pavement.
It's got 18's front & rear in 2.5 and 3.5 widths so there will be some availability.
