Thanks for all the kind words guys. It’s almost sorted and hopefully gonna get some good rides in on it. Take it some places my other bikes won’t go.

Yes, I built it. it’s an xs650 with a 750 big bore kit. - always loved the triumph Tr6 so I decided to build a knockoff so to speak. If I had a real one(if I could afford it) I’d certainly beat it to death driving it where I plan to take this.  Built it to ride the back roads/dirt roads and up the beach (we have miles of beach dunes and coast line you can ride here).

The Yamaha 650 is a good solid engine, better than the Triumph. ;D Where are you?
Don't fix it if it ain't broke!

You'd hope so too, Edward Turner designed the Triumph Speed Twin engine in 1935, and Yamaha started making 650 twins 35 years later. Yamaha made no bones about borrowing the look of British twins, but were smart enough to build their own. I have a mate who owns 3 old Triumphs, he usually rides his 2 Honda CB750's, because he likes to look at his Triumph's and ride his Honda's. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Yeah, back in the 80’s I bought a Lucas branded timing light, needless to say, it doesn’t work…. ;D

A few more pics.

I have a few friends who have triumphs, from rat bikes to show builds and with the exception of the one built for a land speed record (he got it too) the xs out performs a triumph in every aspect but style. I would certainly agree the triumph is much more a looker than the xs.

As you can see there are definitely some places where the high shrubs, salt water and sand have left there mark haha.

Very minimal wiring. High/low, tail/brake, neutral and gauges. I did run wiring for signals, just don’t have em hooked up.

Nice!!

I’m a few miles south of Pismo, out in the county, but still just 10 mins from the beach.

Wings when not chromed are nice and SLO is my favorite vacation area, it has it all and the trip tip sandwiches in area and tri tip steaks that McLintock serves are phenomenal!
What degree did your youngest get at CalPoly?

One of my favourite little bikes back in the day. It's a pity that their biggest was a 500, a 750 or 900 would have been magnificent. ;D

Yes, a 750 Morini would've been a great bike, and a great contemporary to my 750GT.

That said, the little 350cc twin punches well above its weight, and only has to move a 325 lb. bike (plus rider and gear of course).  It is a FUN little bike to ride.
