I'll look forward to read your ride reports on that Ducati, Terry.

I have never ridden one but I'm sure handling is one big reason why people buy them.

I have heard Ducati clutches that sounds like a high amount of wear ;D
If such clutch help to win races, no problem.

You have some ridable bikes.
This thread and earlier can help to keep track of them, avoid clogged fuel system by old fuel.

dry clutches are a great idea , on a wet clutch the bits that wear off the clutch plates end up in the oil .
they are noisy though .

Let clutch residues stay outside the engine is good.
Like cars do too, less noise ;D ;D

Thanks guys, I have two of them, both 916 S4’s. The clutch was replaced on its last service in 2020, but due to the Covid lockdown he didn’t ride it, so it’s still new I suppose.

My red S4 has an open clutch cover so it’s even louder still, so I won’t be installing one on this bike. It’s a hoot to ride though, Spotty accidentally pulled a wheelie in 3rd gear the first time he rode it, so I think it’ll be fun to ride once it’s legally on the road.

We pulled the fuel pump out presuming that it was faulty because we couldn’t hear it priming when we first started working on it, but when we tested it, it worked fine, and there was no rust or perished fuel hoses within. We did find that two of the hoses had softened and swelled up though, so we replaced them and just put it back in and called it good.

I’d always wanted an S4, I fell in love with them when I first saw one at a dealership 22 years ago, but couldn’t afford one, so I was stoked to find two low mileage S4’s for cheap, because they’re still holding their values now. I’ll report back in a week or two when it’s registered and I have taken it for a decent ride. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Was curious on value so searched for one online, $8900 for low mileage 2001 model.

Strange that a very well handling bike has so low milage after over 20 years.
Like 2 seasons. 6,851 miles (11016km)
It was not fun for the owner?

Yeah mate, I already have a red one (well my son does now, he wanted it more than I did, so it’s his now) and I’m happy with the black one. I paid less than half of that price for each of mine, so was lucky because neither of them have done 20,000 miles yet.

Per, the reason why they haven’t done a lot of miles is because the previous owners installed clip on handle bars and higher rear set pegs, which seems to be common with Ducati people. It makes them bloody uncomfortable to ride so the posers who spent money to make their bikes look “cool” just undid what Ducati set out to do by building a bike with that beautiful 916 engine, but with more comfortable ergonomics.

The PO of my red one was about a foot shorter than me, so while it suited him, it was no good for me. He modified it to suit him, but needed money so I watched it on EBay for over a month until he dropped the “Buy it now” price to around $4K USD, and I grabbed it before someone else beat me to it.

The PO of the black one bought it with clip ons etc, but like me he is tall, so rarely rode it. When Covid hit and we couldn’t ride our bikes he parked it just after having a service, and when he next tried to start it the battery was flat so he gave up on it. I found some original handle bars on Marketplace that also came with some fancy  raising blocks, so the bars are now about 4-5 inches higher than when I bought it.

It at least had the original foot peg mounts, with aftermarket adjustable foot pegs, so after I had them blasted and powder coated, I made them as low as I could, and now the bike is much more user friendly. It’s definitely a keeper! Here’s the red one. ;D

It has the not comfy setting?

They must have sold it because I can’t open it. Yes the red one is very pretty and fits my son much better than it does me. ;D

I used Steve’s link, looks nice. I don’t know enough about S4’s to know if those “Extras” are options because my black bike has them all except for those horrible alloy grips, I’ve had them on a couple of recent acquisitions and thrown them away, they’re rubbish.

I did watch a YouTube video yesterday of a guy removing the front wheel on his S4, (not as simple as you’d think) and his bike didn’t have the same calipers as my gold ones. I’m taking the wheels over to the tyre place to get new shoes for it before I take it in for it’s Roadworthy Inspection next week. I’m really looking forward to taking it for a decent ride. ;D

Thanks Steve, it’s a cool little bike. I popped for top of the range Michelin Road 6 tyres yesterday, $200 (AUD) more than Pirelli Corso Rosso’s, just because I liked the look of them more, but I’ve only heard good things about them, so Spotty and I will put the wheels back on today, and I’ll take it over to Ace Motorcycles on Monday for its Roadworthy Inspection, then book it into the DMV to get it registered. Will shoot some pictures and post them today. ;D
