CL112.5 out for a 50 mile jaunt. Got it up to 68.9 mph on flat ground!

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Just got back from a 10 day ride. This shot was taken in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia. The road was smattered with big dead Kangaroos.

What caused the deaths, Moe?

Steve-O. The kangaroos are killed by both cars and trucks. Most folk who live and drive in those areas have sturdy bull bars fitted to their vehicles to minimise damage. Of course there are no suitable bull bars available for bikes so you just don't ride at night, which is when most of the roo's get hit. They usually come bounding in out of the darkness right in front of you. Intelligence is not one of their strong points. There are also other hazardous animals like wild goats, emu's (kinda like an ostrich) and wild camels.

Thanks, Stev-o.    It found it on craigslist, and had it shipped in from Western Ohio.      I'll definitely post a ride report, and some pics with scenery when I get it on the road.   It has a few little niggles that need to be sorted before I ride it.

Hybrid post...I took these pics on this bike ('84 Honda Ascot VT500), but didn't get the bike in either of them, but I was sitting on it when I did, lol...curvy road sign I think is off Decker Canyon near Mulholland Highway, and the curvy road going down to the ocean is another one of those twisty So Cal roads heading down to Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu...

The VT Ascot is on my list of bikes I would like to own. I think it would make a great commuter and weekend day tripper.

The 1983-1984 VT500 is a water-cooled 52 degree offset-crank 500cc V-twin, in the same family as the one used in the Shadow, NT650V Hawk GT, NT700V, PC800, etc.

The air-cooled single was the FT500 of 1982 & 1983.

The original FT500 Ascot is also very cool. I have my eye on a complete one a guy has in a barn. I want to use the wheels on my CB550 project (which will get me cast tubeless rims and a rear disc) and am toying with the idea of using the wires from my 550 on the Ascot and turning it into a retro Brit-style thumper.

We did a "small displacement ride" this past weekend w/ sub-150cc bikes. About ten of us. Riding small bikes as fast as they'll go is super fun! Here's my CL112.5 WIP on a cliff above the Harpeth River in TN.

If it's worth doing, it's worth doing twice.

Mine is a hoot to ride.  It pulls strong all the way to redline, which at 9500 rpms, is pretty high for a 500cc v-twin.  Fairly maintenance free, with shaft drive, water-cooled, and maybe self-adjusting valves, I'm not sure.  Really easy to work on, very light and nimble on its feet, and charges hard thru the tight twistys around So Cal.  Not great for triple digit speed runs at all, but in its element, it can hold its own.

I did some mods to mine that aren't shown in that one pic, which was taken when I just got it.  I put on a GP-style handlebar, black rectangular mirrors, drilled front rotor with s/s brake line, and removed the large upper baffle in the muffler and put a s/s cap on it.  Looks and sounds good, had to do a little fiddling with the fuel/air and idle set screws, but nothing too complicated.  Here's a clip of the exhaust after the mod was done:
