Last weekend, I took my Harley to a sidecar meeting organized by friends of mine in Austria. This was my first time as a passenger in a sidecar (BMW GS).

An awesome weekend in the Alps and Dolomites.  The high passes (over 8,000 feet) were kept open last weekend due to the unusual warm weather. Incredible.

Not just the weather was really good...

Well I'm back in Melbourne for the weekend, but on Thursday evening I hopped on my BMW R1100GS and rode over to my storage locker to visit my 1994 Harley Sportster. My Sporty's only done 6960 Km's (4350 miles) in it's 21 years, so it's like a new bike.

I live in Melbourne (well, only on the weekends now) and I work in Canberra (I stay in a hotel apartment) so I'd bought the Harley to ride around Canberra, but the bike dealer in Melbourne thought I was a Canberra resident, so he cancelled the Victorian registration without consulting me first, and I received an unregistered bike.

Sadly I can't get it registered in Canberra because I'm not a resident, so it'll stay locked in the storage locker until I go on Christmas vacation, when I'll take it back to Melbourne to get it registered. That's OK, I'm having a ball on the big black "Boomer" I bought in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago and towed back to Canberra, so I'm not as pissed off about the Sporty situation.

I will buy a set of Wilbers rear shocks like the ones on Wobbly's bike, or perhaps some Aussie made "Ikons", as even just riding the Sporty around the Storage King compound shows up the OEM Showa shock's deficiencies, due to their short stroke. One day, we will ride................ Cheers, Terry. ;D

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

On my Vstrom, Interstate 5 as it crosses over the Sacramento river, on my to wife's hospital, they serve Thanksgiving dinner. Someone has to take care of the sick.

Thanks Mark. Yeah you either love them or hate them.  Got to be the naked ones though. It is smooth, quite, and comfortable. And for a big boy it will get on down the road to. I like the 78 and 79 GW also. Completely different look and styling but still not bad  looking bikes IMO.

Terry, your loaded Wang is the exception of course;) I bet you can be running down the road at 80 and be reading the sport section in the newspaper at the same time ;D Did you add that stand or was already installed by PO.

Ha ha, thanks guys, it is a comfy ride if you want to do 500(+) mile days, and if you're riding in the rain, you won't get wet unless you need to stop, the raindrops go right over your head, it's kind of freaky to watch as you're riding along. It's a winter time bike though, too hot behind that fairing in summer.

The stand is an after-market "ride off" stand. It's really handy but it won't allow me to fit the crash bars I bought for it, and the legs of the stand reduce cornering clearances markedly, so quite scray in the twisties. Problem is, the OEM stand needs to be fixed, which involves stripping the engine out of the frame, so I'm in no hurry to do it.

For a bike that looks so ungainly and heavy, it absolutely flies, I've seen 120 MPH on the speedo many times (It's a US import, so no gay Kilometers, not that there's anything wrong with that.............) and the engine is turbine smooth, apart from my BMW K100RS, I can't think of another bike I've got that's so smooth. Cheers, Terry. ;D
