I wish I had a picture of the YR2 (a predicessor to the R5) we had when I was in high school. My dad picked it up around 1981 or so from a Yamaha dealer near where my sister lives now (and where I work on my various vehicles) that is still in business. I think it was just sitting in there storage lot next to the building. We tried and tried but could never get the carburation quite right (he swears it was a C model, but that was a scrambler exhaust and we had a regular road exhaust, maybe that's why we couldn't sort it, we were referencing the wrong jetting).
Still, it did run and was complete, so I rode it anyway. No power at all down low, but around 3k or so it was like someone lit off a rocket booster. It had that great 2-stroke metallic scream and left a trail of blue smoke in its wake..
Dad painted it is lima bean green with cream accents. I'm sure it seemed stylish at the time. He gave it to me, then later traded me the R69S he had messed up for it back.
