Well I'm back in Melbourne for the weekend, but on Thursday evening I hopped on my BMW R1100GS and rode over to my storage locker to visit my 1994 Harley Sportster. My Sporty's only done 6960 Km's (4350 miles) in it's 21 years, so it's like a new bike.
I live in Melbourne (well, only on the weekends now) and I work in Canberra (I stay in a hotel apartment) so I'd bought the Harley to ride around Canberra, but the bike dealer in Melbourne thought I was a Canberra resident, so he cancelled the Victorian registration without consulting me first, and I received an unregistered bike.
Sadly I can't get it registered in Canberra because I'm not a resident, so it'll stay locked in the storage locker until I go on Christmas vacation, when I'll take it back to Melbourne to get it registered. That's OK, I'm having a ball on the big black "Boomer" I bought in Melbourne a couple of weeks ago and towed back to Canberra, so I'm not as pissed off about the Sporty situation.
I will buy a set of Wilbers rear shocks like the ones on Wobbly's bike, or perhaps some Aussie made "Ikons", as even just riding the Sporty around the Storage King compound shows up the OEM Showa shock's deficiencies, due to their short stroke. One day, we will ride................ Cheers, Terry.
