Sorry no photos but Sunday afternoon I was returning from ride to church and stopped for lunch at favorite fish taco place in South Tucson on way home. Just before I reached my exit I was passed by a truck towing a large 5th wheel trailer and after it was about a cars length ahead of me near my exit it had a blowout causing I not one but both axles tires to fail and shred. The guy about lost it in front of a semi that was following a little too closely. Thought I was going to witness a very ugly wreck. Black smoke poured out of that rear wheel area of the trailer. It was a dual axle trailer. The driver ended up driving the truck towards the center barrier (3 North bound lanes on I10 at Ina Road area. There had been several cars pulled over yesterday afternoon with flat tires. I have a feeling something or someone was dropping debris or materials on I10 causing the high number of vehicles with tire issues...

I was glad I wasn't beside this guy when the explosion of the tire and subsequent shredding and shedding of the tires occurred. It was bad enough being 25-30 feet from it. I pumped my brakes to get traffic behind me to slow after it blew to give the RV room and it all happened pretty quickly after the explosion.
Glad I was not riding faster than my guardian angel.

I know you're glad you were as far behind it as you were when that blow-out happened David, also it's good the RV trailer didn't turn-over onto the road directly in front of you, spilling 'stuff' on the road surface.

Luckily 6was at my exit and moved over into one of the exit lanes after the tire blew about the time it started shredding and shedding itself onto the lane next to it. The sparks started flying after it caused the other tire to fail and the rim digging into the roadway and then the drag of all that caused the trailer to whip and tail wag the dog and I really thought the driver was going to lose it. I was surprised the semi had not let off and had closed distance on the trailer...hard to believe he didn't hear the report of the blowout and react to the carnage happening in front of him. The truck's driver reacted and corrected enough to angle the truck and RV 5th wheel trailer towards the center and concrete barrier that separates W & E bound traffic...
I took my exit and no sounds of any sheet metal crunching so I guess they safely made it to the center median lane. The overpass has high concrete barrier walls on the edge of the exit so I couldn't look to see what was the final look of things. Two 4 ply or heavier trailer tires shredding and peeled apart on the roadway at a minimum. Glad I had a lane to move into to avoid the debris. At least initially it was cover the left half of that lane beside the trailer.
Semi trailers typically don't get out of sort like the 5th wheel did but their tires typically don't take out the other tires adjacent to them either.  The trailer was doing probably close to 70 when it happened and generally recommendations are to not tow at those speeds but people do all the time. Odds are the driver is oblivious to the fact his added speed probably made things a little worse. I generally only tow at about 5mph slower than the limit on interstate and stay in the rightmost lane. I don't try to do 75mph like it is outside the metro areas of AZ either. I don't tow very often either...

Many people that tow trailers neglect the trailer tires as well as wheel bearings. Low tire pressure causes a lot of heat. I worked at a major RV dealer for a while and I saw so many bad things done by the owners of trailers and motorhomes it's scary. My long distance riding buddy and I stay as far away from RV's as we can, especially the rental RV's. Those drivers are usually amateurs and really have no idea what they are doing.

Tested out the new mufflers. The Monster is so much nicer to ride now! The extra back pressure seems to have improved its low speed manners too.

After battling the flu for 1 1/2 weeks, I finally felt like going for a ride. I had some motorcycle club business in Moe (Victoria, Australia), so I went via Blue Rock Lake. First time I've heard the spillway running non-stop. The small creek I also stopped at on the way back is usually a trickle.

I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Here’s a rare bird for North America, it’s a 1990 VFR400R I picked up for my wife from an old friend of mine who left Canada several years ago. He finally decided after 10yrs to let her go. I got it running after it’s long nap and got some fresh tires on it his summer. Pretty fun little 400!

Proper 92 km shakedown run on the Morini this morning.  Travelled through Drouin, Poowong and Strzelecki (Victoria, Australia). The bike didn't miss a beat.  Stopped at an interesting front yard in Poowong (the clown is a nice touch)...
