Ok, I'll bite. There has to be a good story about the name! Great looking bike, BTW.

It's a Honda RC51. Honda was getting tired of Ducati kicking it's arse in World Superbikes, so built their own 90 degree V Twin 1000cc race bike and took back the WSB title with the mighty Sp1 in 2000, and again in 2002. I sold my 2000 model SP1 a few months ago, but have another one in parts to build a track bike day from.

Honda got tired of Ducati using their displacement advantage and homologation rules to build “Sport Production” models of their V-twin superbikes and dominate the World Superbike championship. So, in Honda fashion, they decided to fight fire with fire and prove that they were more than capable of designing their own 999cc V-twin race bike. Colin Edwards took it to the WSBK title in its maiden season and again in 2002. Besides that, Nicky Hayden won the AMA title with it in ‘02. It has won in many other venues as well, Isle of Man, Suzuka 8 hour, World Endurance, etc.
They broke Ducati’s dominance, hence the nickname “Duck Killer”.

Or so it would seem……… lately they are getting their rear ends handed to them on the world stage. They can’t even get a sniff of the podium. It’s somewhat shocking to see, especially given their history of engineering prowess and desire to win. Somewhere Soichiro Honda is not smiling.
About the only place they are winning is in motocross.

They did win at the Suzuka 8 hour, which is a very prestigious race to win for corporate pride. But outside of that they have been lost lately.

It is.  It has over 73,000 miles on it, 95% of which are touring miles.

T-Mobile flew me to Seattle for an interview in 1999.  I took the rental car to Vashon island and did a lot of driving around. Love the area and I am also Frasier fan

Nice you got it out for a leg stretch. Other then a local member I see here in Kazoo its been a very long time since I have seen a triple out on the road or any two stroke for that matter. Don't forget to stretch out the Kaw 750 triples legs a little also !

Hey Eric... unfortunately, there is a small issue with the H2.  About a month or so ago, the wife complained about a gas odor in the garage, her sense of smell is unparalleled! Turned out the vacuum operated petcock had succumbed to the effects of the evil ethanol fuel. Pulled the tank and after a quick internal inspection, was very disappointed to see rust in the tank.  New petcocks are NLA but there are rebuild kits, need to order one and then address the rusty tank. Thinking of going the Evapor-Rust route, will do it once the temps cool a bit. My garage was 98 degrees yesterday! Outside was 107...

Evaporust does a good job. I used that and Metal Rescue to get the rust out of one of my fuel tanks. Before and after.

Definitely far better results if it is left in the hot sun for several days. Put tank in a big tub in case tank leaks your Evaporust. Check it at least daily so you minimize any lost to evaporating...

Any kind of a Pingel or other type of non vacumm operated option out there for the H2 ?  I bought a non vac set-up for my T500 just because it had gone bad. I mean c'mon man it was only fifty years old !

Any kind of a Pingel or other type of non vacumm operated option out there for the H2 ?  I bought a non vac set-up for my T500 just because it had gone bad. I mean c'mon man it was only fifty years old ! 

There may be a Pingel out there that could be retrofitted but this is a very unique petcock, has 4 bungs.



This is a spare that I have and is in immaculate condition, just need the rebuild kit, plan to order it from Jess, $98!

What really sucks is the existing petcock was rebuilt just 6 or so years ago when the bike was restored...
