Aw crap, did it fall off the lift?!! :o

Yes, the rear tire was low and the little pressure I put on the float bowl drains caused it to go over.  I am not all that upset as David mentioned I will b e dumping the  bike.

Uh, you dumping the bike?
It's a plain blank canvas for the masterful strokes to be applied...

Yes,  I've had it with the bike.  It is a fitting end...........................................................

I echo Scott's sentiments...sucks when stupid stuff happens. Today's Dilbert strip I have seen in action more than a few times...
While not directly related to this incident/accident...maybe the bike will find an owner who can believe in it and have the ability to stroke it back into something more than it currently is lying on its side...

A mind is a terrible thing to waste, and time spent is never retrievable...so spend it well with little to no regrets, as we will answer for our time one day.
At least you can take comfort that the warm weather will find it a buyer at higher prices than in the cold dark depths of winter.

The entire time(40+ years) that I've been involved with motorcycles   I've never seen that happen.  It was a STUPID oversight.  I had smashed my head earlier in the day(didn't have the door up all the way and walked into it :-[ :-[ :-[

I appreciate that sentiment but as of now I have no plan to finish it the way I originally planned.  The custom painted rear fender is trashed(the tank did survive).  I'll post some photos later...Larry

This has been by far the longest I have ever taken to redo a 400F, usually 2 to 3 months and it is good to go-this may be two years.  Thanks for the encouragement ...Larry

Yeah, i hear ya.  I have one of these P.I.T.A bikes as well.  Its a 78 cd750 that i never should have bought.  I have been working on for about 4-5 years now.  Hopefully this will be the year its done, but the damn thing fights me at every turn.  I have inches from setting the whole thing on fire at least 5 times.  When it really pisses me off, i take a break and work on something else.  I am a stubborn bastard though and will win the war of attrition.

Most of what I am fighting is psychological .   My wife died from cancer and this was to have been a sort of tribute/fund raiser but now that seems hypocritical to me as she threatened to leave when I asked to buy a bike. The entire 22 years of marriage I was devoid of motorcycling. Enough soul bearing...Larry

Larry,

That really sucks.  I think if you get the tip-over damage sorted, you should then sell it and say good-bye to the bad vibes.  Get yourself something else entirely and ride the bejeezus out of it.  Open a new chapter.

I have a couple Ninja 600s on menu.  Here are some photos, minor damage considering.  It could have been waaaaaaaaaaay worse as the spot where the  bike fell normally has a customer's bike.

I have another rear fender but it is chrome(I'm not using the painter again >:() so what I may do is paint that fender black and repaint the front fender black. The switch is trashed so I'd need another(think it came from a Silverwing). I have a speedo(wouldn. 't wear one though ::)). Think I have a spare set of bar end mirrors. Most people do not like the white seat and I have a spare stock one, so the tank would be pink/white, side covers white with the ribbons, fenders black and seat black.  Still would need to have a bracket welded on the frame.

I think the monochromed white look just doesn't work for this bike and the black fenders would be better.  Ask over on the CX/GL forum for a Silverwing right side switch...might get lucky with a better deal than on feebay. Unless you want a different switch assembly.

Thanks David,  I did build another 400 that was completely white sans pink and it was my favorite of all the 400s I had.

Perhaps its time to sort it out and sell it.

If you can, donate the funds to the Charity and send that bike along with Good Vibes and be done with it. It seems to be haunting you somewhat, and life is too short to keep bad reminders of great people. You could even let the Charity have it as a donation to raffle off for themselves. Bet there's heaps of women who'd love to have that bike that are survivors and embarking on new chapters in their lives.

Good advice Cal and , yes, the final placement would certainly be female...Larry

MoMo,

I recall that one and it did look good and I agree it was very sharp. For some reason this one didn't hit me the same way as that one did.  This one just didn't vibe in the same way for its white paint job.
I think you had a single seat in tan on the other one, right?

single seat     but in black.  The seat was one of those ugly old mini king/queen that I cut down and refitted the upholstery.

  MoMo,
Dropping a bike in the shop is a heartbreaker for sure. I've done it twice ( slow learner I suppose), few things can knock the wind from your sails like that, especially when such care has been taken on a project that could help others get through  a dark and uncertain time in their lives.
Yes the project has taken a step back. So.   It sounds like the man behind the project still believes in the cause. And I must say, I'm proud to be  on a forum where members are willing to do what you are doing to make a difference. A difference in a stranger's life that has been affected by such a life robbing disease as cancer. I applaud your thought and effort. It's selfless, it's honest , and  people like you are proof that there is still goodness in this world.
We all suffer from  days when nothing is going right.  We try to push through it and sometimes bad stuff happens. Some days are better than others. Tomorrow will be a new day, a chance to put yesterday behind us, a chance make things work even better than they would have in the first place.
I don't know, but I think the spark to finish this project is still there, and it sounds like you are re evaluating at the damage and slipping your mind back into a forward gear. I could be wrong, but it sounds like that. Whatever you decide to do, I just wanted to thank you for undertaking such a project  and the meaning behind it.        RB

Thank you for the kind encouraging words RB.   It inspired me to put the bike back on the lift and continue work.  I put a stock header and exhaust on that I had laying around. The bike now runs nice and smooth with no hesitaiton(it had a MAC header with a Dunstall exhaust and ran crappy in midrange).  Now it is fine.  However................................the new permanent position of the kick starter.  All I can say is WTF gives with this bike??????
