While we're Waiting For Godot  here are some more progress photos.

The underside of the clutch bracket, as you can see it was a right brake lever bracket due to the mirror mount now being underneath.  If anyone can identify the M as Montesa or Magura I'd appreciate the info.   The safety wires will be removed.

Moe getting anxious to ride,  he is also Waiting For Godot ::)

The headlight is from a Yamaha 650 Maxim(actually it may be from a TX500).  It is also Waiting For Godot ::) and has been modified-two of the large openings in the back have been sealed up and are also waiting to be painted.

I like the large size, plus it should be a bunch brighter than the original.

Think I'll go watch my favorite play,  Waiting For Godot :P...Larry

David, I work at Home Depot in the tool rental and paint department, where we sell the red spray PlastiDip. I just may buy some and spray it on the PC tires for an experiment.
I have to assess what I have and am missing before I start on 9.0.   I have a feeling I'm missing too much.

PlastiDip as the paint you can cover pliers handles with?

yes,  that stuff Prokop    and I  do mean on the tires Steve.   It is flexible and seems to stick to most anything so why not try it.  What I really like about the Opel is the combination of silver and red(Ver. 9 if there is one will try to come even closer to the Opel...Larry

Coker Tire makes a couple 28x2.5 and 28x3 tires that are all white, would imagine they would have something that could dye them red safely.  They are around $250/tire...

Stev-o, dude, who has been p--sing in your cornflakes to make you be such an annoying pita lately? Taking lessons from your buddy who is wet behind the ears and takes his toys and runs home crying when people are being mean to him?

David,  chances of me spending more for tires than I paid for a bike are non-existent.  Thanks for the info tho.  Stev-o is having a good time at my expense-no problem with that at all and I am still Waiting For Godot...Larry

Moe says lets get this thing going

Notice the brand new Hagons, they came with a 750 I bought.  Wrong length for the 750 so this bike will be blessed with a new set of decent shocks

Notice the muffler, it is a Dunstall, which was given to me after I installed a Hooker on the owner's Yammie. The Dunstall is not in the best of condition but it sure sounds cool.  It is being used in conjunction with a MAC header that came with one of the 400s. The MAC has to be removed inorder to change the oil filter(nice design ::)).

I do not have a point cover so the 750 one is on there until a cover is located.

And, yes........................................................I am still Waiting For Godot...Larry

Hagons, very nice...they would fetch a nice price resold...or build a nice bike for someone who buys this one.
Problem with all the Honda motorcycles were they "cheaped out" on the shocks...but, given the technology of the day I guess they were average.
You are putting some nice bits on this bike.  Dunstall muffler, Hagon shocks, wow...
Priced a set of Hagons new?  Used should command at least 1/2 that money in my mind...if still in good shape.

Had to reboot my mom's wireless, wasn't reaching the garage. Working on her Subaru Outback (2001 Eddie Bauer edition)...finishing brake job and just replaced the left rack boot. Naturally I didn't bring my torch and needed it and dad didn't have one that I could find... Did see he had a bottle of propane...
Dealer wanted over $200 for the brakes alone and 3 hours labor on the rack boot. They are smoking dope.  Set of ceramic pads from AutoZone (Duralast) were $50, $5 for one of their spray cans of brake cleaner and silicone lube for pins and something else... So $60 out the door.  $22 to have the rotors turned (last time they can be turned, as they are at .886 and .901 where min thickness is .866  Nominal thickness is .945)
Rack boot was $35 and it took me 60-75 minutes to do it since I already had the wheels off. That's with 15 minutes of time wasted hammering on a wrench to see if the tie rod end nut would come loose without heat.  Should have known after 2 minutes I was wasting my time.
Tape the threads of the tie rod end with some electrical tape and find some boot friendly lube in dad's old collection of chemicals and car care stuff.
(Armor All did the trick)

Back to finish up and head home for bed...
Thanks for the bike porn pictures MoMo...I see you have Tews salivating on possibly buying the Hagons from you...

BTW, Moe is a nice looking young cat... I like cats too but, my aunt would kill me if I tried to have a cat while staying with her...

Sorry Tews but not for sale.   Thank for  the interest tho.

David,  brake replacement is probably the biggest money maker for the auto industry.  Good thing you did.  I usually don't work on cars(actually hate it).  Moe has two brothers Manny and Jack.  They're from the same litter and look like triplets, and make good company. ;)

Not Shep, Larry, or Curley?
Yeah, Mom needed work done and I can do it. She gives me some money to help me buy new tires for my car and she's ahead and I am ahead.
They were wanting $240 for the labor on the rack boot and I think they wanted $220 labor & turning rotors plus the $95 pads. Plus they wanted to replace valve cover gaskets for another $160 labor and $80 parts.

She had a little accident parking the car after dad died in August and pushed some things into the paneling and drywall in basement, so while she was gone to the Outer Banks this week with my sister I demo'd and fixed the damage to the two walls and door as well as this car work.
I cleaned the throttle body and the idle air control valve a few weeks ago and it helped some but the tip in surge on the throttle is too high. I am not sure if it is a throttle position sensor going bad or an adjustment in the throttle cable mechanism or the hand controls out of adjustment. One shop lubed the controls but it didn't help the issue.

I bought a set of DSS spokes from a forum member and relaced and trued both wheels.  The front rim was almost perfect save for one horrendously bad spot.  I had an excellent spare rim that came with the purchase of the first two 400s so I replaced the bad spot front rim and just the spokes on the rear.  Here is a photo of a tool we made to help with the removal of the spokes, it is a 3/8 drive MAC impact screwdriver bit that we ground a notch out so the spoke nipples could be removed with an air impact(I mostly use my Makita 18v now-no cord and no compressor noise :). Every mechanic had one of these bits;)  The spoke wrench was used to break the nipple loose then the bit to blow off the nipples in minimal time.  When you were working flat rate every special tool that saved time made you money 8)

Nothing like nice shiny spokes and wheels, especiallly for $60 and several hours.  Think I'll go watch Waiting For Godot ??? ::)...Larry

The clutch cable was a Motion Pro that was improperly manufactured  and was an Ebay purchase for something like $12.  I forgot what I had to do to get it to work but it was something like enlarging the lower adjuster-took a couple minutes at most and was a heckuva lot less costly than the Honda and seems to be well made.

Throttle cables were purchased from the same Ebay seller and were really inexpensive(less than 20 for A&B).  I normally only buy Honda cables but at the low prices these were worth the gamble, and I am happy with the quality.

The seat was a great find.  I had a base that was in OK condition but this one is very good and cost roughly $60 with shipping :)

The tire style is something I would not have chosen but I traded some parts to a friend who had a new set of tires for the 400F but no 400 ???

Better photos of the tires

Could not locate the upper clutch cable bracket so I adapted this to hold the cable in place

All the wires from the Silverwing switches wound up neatly packaged at the normal location

A better view of the poorly designed MAC header.  I have not tried to take the filter holder off with header on but it sure looks way easier to remove the exhaust rather than struggle with it on.

Headers look bad in the photo but they show fairly well...Larry

Nice work on adaptation and use of things you had and trading for things.
Seat looks nice.
maybe thetires won't be so bad, they work for the new owner until he puts a set of new tires on it.
It will be a good bike for the buyer.

Larry, the perfect helmet for this bike would be a pink Paradise helmet Scorpion made a few years back. Should be able to find an image when I'm not using my tablet.

So, you would not be caught wearing pink or on a bike with pink. Guess it is not a "big" cc bike so a larger fellow would find it lacking or less thana high performance bike.

Actually, David, I will ride the bike until it passes my test criteria-that is at least a 100 miles.  I'm 5'7" and somewhere around 170, anyone taller than 6' does look somewhat odd on the 400.  Vers.  2 and 3 were purchased from 6'2" man, who made the bike look small,  and wanted to sell because he felt awkward just sitting on the bike...Larry

This is a conversation that comes up on some bicycle forums I'm a part of.   Riding a pink bike, guess it depends on how much pink and the shade.  Here are three;  two I would ride, one...not so much.
