Thread re RULE CHANGE.
« on: August 02, 2013, 03:12:10 AM »
RULE 4.......Here's your chance to have your say.
Last month, a few people thought it was pointless nominating a bike that had been in the previous months competition and that perhaps a 6 month wait be put in place before a bike could be nominated again.
Have your say on this.

I also said I would try to make some of the rules a little clearer. (I'm on it)

We lost a couple of people that had been nominated and seconded last month because they didn't accept the nomination. The problem here is, did they in fact know about the nomination.

I'm going to add to the rules that if you nominate a person, once the nomination has been seconded, the nominator should contact the person he has nominated along with a link to the thread so that the person nominated has the chance to respond. Remember lots of people on the forum only visit certain sections and might not even know about BOTM.

Thanks for reading, Sam. ;)

Once a year imo. If you were making a calendar you wouldn't want the same bike on it twice.
'Then' and 'than' are completely different words and have completely different meanings. Same with 'of' and 'have'. Set and sit. There, their and they're. Draw and drawer. Could care less/couldn't care less. Bought/brought FFS.

I think a 3 month wait would be good personally.

Think the idea of directly contacting a nominee is perfect for nominations.

the nominator should contact the person he has nominated along with a link to the thread so that the person nominated has the chance to respond.

You think that would be common sense and agree 100%.

As for re-nomination I think a 3 month waiting period is fair to give others a chance in the interim. However you might want to specify that a bike cant win BOTM twice!

thanks as always Sam for bringing clarity to the rules.

cheers
Andy

A 3 month waiting period also sounds fair to me.

Regarding rule #8: are bikes that are "completed", yet not running, as in static display pieces allowed?

I think only bikes that are completed and running should be allowed. Otherwise its just a piece of art if its not running. Id prefer to vote on a motorcycle that you could jump on and ride. Sort of like Barbers Vintage Motorcycle Museum has all its bikes on display can be started and run any time. Also it gives the builder some incentive to actually complete the project!

I think that how many nominations shouldn't matter.

If a person wins then they cannot be nominated for the remainder of the year with the same bike but another bike would be ok.

The first person to nominate should contact the person they nominated.

Bikes should definitely be running but honestly are they ever finished?

Also included is that a bike can only win ONCE.

OK guys, due to the fact that we have a bike in this months competition that has not proved to be a runner, Justin (cheftuskey121) and myself have looked into this. We have agreed that Andy's (736cc) bike is a museum piece and I'm sure without asking him he could get this bike to run if he had to just like the bikes in the Barber Museum.

I withdrew the nomination because of the complaint it's currently not running.
FYI, all the bikes in Barber (or other motorcycle museums) don't run. A large percentage 99% do run. And personally I prefer running bikes, too. I figured I'd  share it in this forum's show but I apparently figured wrong.

I agree with you on this, I thought the whole idea of bike of the month was to give some credit to the builders of these fine bikes on the forum, anyone can go buy something already built {no disrespect 736}, the BOTM thread gives some recognition to the guys for their hard work and I think thats how it should stay...  Really, for 736's bike to be run after sitting for so long it would need a build thread of its own, i would certainly pull down the engine for a quick look to make sure all was well inside {how do we even know it would run?} before even staring on getting the CR31's to work again....   My point is it would need work before being a runner, so its not complete.....technically..... ;)

I agree that it should be allowed, however, I also feel that since it is not actually a runner, that fact should be taken into consideration when voting.

Not by the current owner and it would take a bit of work to get it going.. As it is now,  i can go buy a bike that looks good , doesn't run and win...Sorry Steve but as far as i am concerned thats not how the BOTM was meant to be, it should be a reward for the work done by the OP as most, if not all other winners are.... ;)   Just my opinion of course but I think that takes the shine off the effort put in by the guys that actually sweat over their prized rides... ;)

I agree and thats how BOTM was originally setup. Having said that Sam (doing the great job that he is) has put a  clause in that showbikes/museum bikes can be included at the moderators discretion. Which I understand but I think it makes it that bit harder for the regular SOHC Forum member to compete. Anyway its good to have a discussion over it.

cheers
Andy

Hey Mick - I respect your opinion.   I think it's a gray area, don't think the original rules state you had to do all the work on the build to get nominated?
It's all good, bottom line is its a beautiful bike, don't you agree?

Just found this, and a little late to the discussion.  Agree with the 3 month wait, contacting nom part.  Also agree with RR's reasoning on the point of the BOTM.

I've often seen it mentioned when voters couldn't decide, that they should consider which bike they would like to have in their own garage. I will always chose a runner, especially when the nominee has turned a crappy looking bike into visually stunning one. The greater the transformation, the more bonus points awarded. ;D
