First start up in more than 20 years, need advice
« on: August 15, 2013, 07:46:38 PM »
Hi I'm new member here. I have CB350F that has been stored for more than 20 years.
I'm thinking of starting it up but looks like it wouldn't. Please advise what should I do? I'm thinking of rebuilding it.
The front brake doesn't work too.

Pull plugs out, put in some penetrant. Then get manual.

WOW 20yrs; I thought it rough with mine which sat for 15.

Sitting this long, I'm willing to bet you will need to replace some gaskets, seals, or hoses; time has a way of making things deteriorate.

I would start by squirting a healthy amount of WD40 down each cylinder and letting that sit for 24hrs, then using the kick start see if the motor cranks free.

if you can pop off the fuel bowls on the carburetors and check for any varnishing or gum up do this and clean as needed.

Check the inside of the tank for its condition, and fill with fresh gas mixing in some liquid carburetor cleaner.

Check the plugs and put in a fresh set as needed; also inspect clean and set the points if needed.

Put in a battery and see what happends.

Good luck.

Yeah I'm confident It sat more than 20 years, maybe close to 25 years.

I already have the manual, just don't know where to start. LOL So looks like I have to take it apart? WHat are the plugs you recommend? and man this thing is very heavy, how much does it weigh?

My project sat for 30 years and needed a heck of a lot more than fresh gas and new plugs. So let us know whether it turns over, what the inside of the tank looks like, exterior pics, etc. It can help people on here to assess the condition and advise you accordingly.

will do, do you if they still sell the 4 pipe exhaust? mine is rusted and it split into half. The bike is still in my warehouse and it's ~15km away to my house so I will have to hire pick up truck to move it.

Mine weighs slightly under 500lbs, the plugs I use are NGK DR8EA which have always run nice for a bike coming up on 40,000 miles.
