KO Help
« on: August 17, 2013, 09:04:53 AM »
i have a 70 (12 of 69) cb750 with cases split and trans and other parts in a box...crank and upper end are still together....wondering what of the later 750 stuff might be interchangeable? this has been apart for 25 years and i'm sure some parts have been lost...i have a number of later donor motors just not sure what will work? anybody ever swap complete trans?
Is it possible and if so what problems? any help greatly appreciated...

Yes, later model parts may work.  Do a full inventory and then be more specific.
To confirm if parts are the same, check part numbers...

There is a chance some parts may show a 300 number and a 341 number but still interchange. The early stuff is considered the 300,the post 71 is labeled as 341. As Steve mentioned name some specific parts when you get that far.

Checking the part numbers will be misleading.
Honda has different numbers for different bikes even if it is the same part.
I would visually compare and measure with vernier calipers.

Actually most parts up to 1975 should work.

The 1969 carbs are worth money and were the best carbs of all of them.
Don't let someone cheat you out of them. They are worth $600 or more in good condition. If the backing plate is cracked a K2 or 1972 backing plate will work. Just trim the crap off of it.

Since i didn't take it apart and never have split the cases on one of these thought it would be easyer to take everything out of one motor and transfer it to this one...it's always better if you take it apart....this was done by a dealership 25 years ago and the guy couldn't afford to fix it at the time and has just been sitting... somebody must have swaped a complete trans over the years and knows the problems....

And, yes the carbs are correct as are, air box, caliper, seat (no tears or splitting), fender and chain guard...not sure what else i should be looking at to see if it's correct...wrinkle tank also and correct gauges....paints shot most chrome has pitting aluminum all needs work...but it's worth saving....

Some pics would be cool but basically then you are wondering if a complete trans from another year will work in the 69 cases since it sounds like you have all the top end bits. I know the final drive sprockets were different on the earlier  69/70 but cannot tell you exactly if or what differences were on the inside compared to like the more plentiful K1 or 1971 for instance. Somebody I sure with more experience in that matter then I will chime in though. We can all learn a little.
The more original you could keep it the better maybe as far as value. What is the vin range on the frame and engine, good to double check the engine is still original to the bike  ;) Also look for any breakage around the countershaft sprocket area, lot of them died because of broke chains etc.

Yep, all the gearbox bits from the K1 to K6 should work mate, the only real difference was that the sprocket shaft (output shaft) on your K0 doesn't have the auto oiler like the later models, so you should use that when you do the rebuild. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

You could just drop in the newer motor and sell me that 1014xxx. That falls into original range for my K0. LoL.
