Understanding crankshaft bearing choice
« on: August 17, 2013, 09:52:29 PM »
Hello, I'm in deep and need clarity. I believe I need to replace my crankshaft bearings. Ive been away from the project and I'm just getting back to it. I torqued the cases down with the PG in place and then compared to the guide and they were worn. On my cases it says BBAAA so it was my understanding all I need to do is reorder these bearings, am I wrong?
thanks a million to anyone who can help me understand.

You have half the code, the other is on the crank.
Before we go further.. Get a manual. Read the bearing section.
Over and over till you fully understand.. Then you can order your bearings.

Reading the Japanese style English lettering etchings on the crank is the hardest part. Most peopele don't even notice them on there. Cross reference those with the case letters and order from that. The first 5 are the crank while the last set is for the rods. As Frank says, get a manual. After you figure it out you'll think it's easy.

If it helps any, here's where the crank lettering is usually located, and what it looks like.  Maybe take some close up pics and post them if your having trouble figuring them out....

They are hard to see got to hold it just right. Sometimes on here there are pics showing how hard it is to see. Once you understand the instruction re fitting them, in some cases you may be able to select, a slightly oversize shell.
..your pic has shown up..magic..

I've never seen one as obvious looking nor as similar as JerryH's. Wouldn't that be nice!
