+1 I like the idea of a visual map of riders from all over so you can see who is in the vicinity. I agree with what Mono said about how that would make a general meet up or group meet up much easier.

All the maps are in the first post of the stickied map thread. Goldarrow found out early on that he could only place so many points on a map, so he made separate maps for each team. In fact, the teams this year were laid out according to his maps. Thanks Gold!!! ;D

ahhh... gotcha.  it still bothers my computer-nerd brain that this can't just be compiled, parsed, and queried, but it looks like it's all been tried.  carry on!

I gotta say, I've been pretty happy with the current set-up. However, I live in an area where the weather is almost always good for riding and the roads are super fun and it still amazes me how few people turn out for the ride. I confess I only skimmed the preceding posts but it seems to me that it is difficult enough coordinating the relay so as it is. Adding complexity will, of course, complicate things.
So much to do, so little time.

It amazes me, too, how few have turned out the last two years, especially considering the concentration of riders in the area?? At least this year we have had more SoCal riders than ever before...

As far as the mapping is concerned, it can be done.  The first step is not using Mapquest.  You can export a KMZ file from Google Earth and import into Google Maps.  This allows for a much, much higher concentration of points.  It should be able to accommodate our needs just fine.

Bessie's been out of commission since the first rally but I'd love to participate again in 2014 - whether it's one GZ like last time or 3-4 of them, just make sure one makes it up here to Toronto again! :D

Schedule at work permitting, and my bike continuing to run well permitting, I'm up for participation in the 2014 event. I'm in South Florida, Palm Beach County, and on my normal Sunday rides I put 250 miles on the bike riding back and forth along the coast between Tequesta and Miami. If it keeps running that well, 300 miles in one day is fine with me. I do work for the Post Office though, and all of next years vacation time will be scheduled by the 3rd week of December. I'm already busy looking up all the events I want to attend next year and trying to make a list of all the dates I need off. The sooner you guys are able to throw together a timetable, the more sure I will be about having that time off. :)  Hope to ride with you and meet some of you!

Hey Mark - since you are most likely the southernmost rider, would you consider being the lead off rider?
MadMt has done it twice, officially starting in Daytona during  Bike Week.  Being lead lessons the chance of a delay from previous rider and you set the date.
If Daytona is too far (but I highly suggest going to Bike Week), maybe Mad could meet you.

If I can't find another rider even further south to start it, sure! We've got five vintage bike clubs that have started up in the last year and a half, and we are REALLY all cooperating to get a really good, and really big, vintage bike scene going down here. There were 5 other CB750's on the Distinguished Gentlemans ride with me, and we only had 44 riders! Wondering why you don't start of up north so the riders facing snow at the end won't have to worry. We've got a 12 month riding season down here, we could finish it at any time of year.

We've kicked off in March, still could be freezing in The North or mountain areas, seems to make sense starting in the South.

As always, I am up for lots of miles any way it ends up rolling.  I know how hard it has been to get participants going the last two years and have racked up many miles with the little lizard.  I will be retiring in June so I might have a lot of time available after July 15 (taking a little vaca with the wife) to run the whole country.. :)

As it is too cold to ride long distances this time of year in most areas, I suggest we utilize the "library check out" system of the three lizards for the duration of the winter. First come, first served. The main requirements are that pictures are posted, and the lizards are promptly moved on to the next recipient. This is strictly for fun! Who wants to host a lizard for Thanksgiving or Christmas? ;D

Gold, you were a GREAT help this year, providing the rider maps. We couldn't have done it without your contribution. ;)

No problem, let's do it again.  But seems like someone has come up with better ideas on the map???

No matter what the format, the wife and I plan to participate! We greatly enjoyed meeting ofreen when he handed PZ off to us and also EnvinoVeritas when we handed off to him. Two completely different dudes with much different bikes but both were awesome! That's what it's all about IMO. Meeting great people who share a mutual interest.

If it is decided to split the country in thirds, I could see it starting in the south, heading north and then back south again. It could be cool to have the southern starters begin at the Mexican border(or gulf/ocean depending on geography) then relay to Canadian border and back down to Mexico/waterfront.

I realize that most of us are only referring to the US.  What about our members in Oz, UK, Europe etc? What can we do to run with multiple lizards in multiple countries and still have some larger sense of community?  Maybe a monthly photo contest or monthly photo album compiling global pics? It's pretty easy to make a slide show on a computer these days. :)

Wow stay away from a thread for a small bit of time and get called all sorts of things!  thank you for protecting my honor Scottly....  ;) Yup the first year I was the only So. Cal rider, then in #2 we doubled that to two people (not counting Triumph Dude of course ;D) and then doubled it once again for WT #3.
Let's see how So. Cal does in 2014.
