Bike Week activities scheduled March 7-16.
I'll be there!
We need to make a decision
I'll do what I can, but won't be much help, especially if this follows the previous, single baton, format
. As Brooze pointed out, we have nowhere near the riders we would need to even begin coordinating something like that. Forty-eight states (Canada too?) with thirty-two riders? I can do two states easy, probably three, but the time constraints for the "Single Line" format are too limiting by requiring at least 350 miles
PER WEEK. Now that doesn't sound like much, except that's "one way" distance required for the baton. For the participating rider(s), depending upon their residence/pick-up point/drop-off point, this can (and often has) resulted in round-trip distances approaching 1000 miles (or more). For some of us, that's not that big of a deal. Most of my round-trip efforts have been around 700 miles, and that's along the relatively densely populated East coast. For some riders, 100 miles round-trip is a marathon
. That's a very aggressive pace, and one that requires constant diligence from those doing most of the coordinating to actually pull it off. A three-way split (East, Central, West) should break down to a more leisurely pace of around 100 miles per week, so a two or three week lag could be made up in one weekend.
Easy-peasy.
I certainly would not be able to commit to a "Three Year" plan as matt suggests. Hell, it's hard enough to hold someone's attention (mine included) for just one riding season, let alone three.
Stay tuned.... GZ 4.0E (East, aka "Cranky") may soon rear his ugly head in the Sunshine State....
