Fuel Line Problems
« on: August 16, 2006, 01:28:53 PM »
Hey Folks,
I just bought my first bike 1971 CB500.  I bought it from my boss and gave $400.00 for it.  He didn't think it ran well.  I put new plugs, reworked the plug wires/boot, ran some carb cleaner through it. This thing is 35 years old and kicked off like it was going to race in the county fair.  It runs great.  I noticed that the fuel line was a little rotten looking so I yanked it off and got some more.  To my surprise the O.D. is to big to go through the holes in the bracket behind the carbs.  I can't find any line that is thinner walled.  Any ideas where I could get some?  Everything in town is to thick.  If I try to run it another route to get to where I need to go I get bad hose kink and less gas. :-X

Anyhow you guys are awesome and I have learned a ton in just a week and a half.  Here are some pics from the day I took the exhaust off to paint and worked on the headlight.

i wouldnt be too concerned about the holes in the bracket, just run the line under or around it to the carb nipples.

If you are really concerned then you can order the original I.D. 5.5mm stuff from your local Honda dealer. I got some recently.

Find a rod that will fit nicely into the fuel line. Slide the line over the rod. Put the rod in a lathe or drill. Let it run and with some sandpaper sand the line down until it fits.

Use mask and glasses to protect yourself.
