The thing I remember most about that first Mad Max film was that car.  Yeah, the dialogue's cheesy, the US version had god-awful overdubbing and the writing needed some help, but they caught some amazing action sequences with little or no budget.  There's actually two SOHC's in that movie, the bubbletop trike ("...A get out of jail free card..") and there's one hidden in Toecutter's "Lineup" shot, stuck inbetween all the Kaws.  There's also a Kaw triple in it, Goose somehow managed to carry his crutch, circle around Mel Gibson, and catch an apple while keeping it a slow pace.

Story-wise I wish they would've come up with a different sequence when Toecutter's gang chases the '59 Chevy.  All that driver would've had to do is swerve all over the road and those Kaws would've been scattered everywhere.  That's the main part of the film I don't buy.

If you truly have never seen Mad Max or the Road Warrior you are not allowed to ride any more until you do.  >:(

/Saw them both for the first time back-to-back on HBO in 1983. Was glorious!  8)

I need to get Mad Max on DVD. I've had it for years on VHS. It's like a class B movie but a good one. There were lots of class B movies in the 60's & 70's....all the old biker movies and one of my favorites.....the original Gone in 60 Seconds.

This movie  really was the reason I wanted to ride. I wanted to be just  like Goose.  Would have been great if there were riding battle scenes with Toecutter gang and Goose in the movie.  I might sculpt Toecutter figure some day.

I don't blame you not seen the movie, yet, Stev-O. It is an old movie after all, and so many people have not seen great movies that they should have.  Come to think of it, I have never seen movies like E.T., Cool hand Luke....

Given that we're talking about Mad Max, what are your thoughts on the new one coming up - Fury Road (or something)?

I cringe every time Hollywood remakes a classic.  The Fog (Carpenter must have hated what they did to his cult classic), Conan - just to name a couple.  I sincerely hope that this one is better.

I actually wouldn't mind them making a remake of Mad Max - maybe Gibson can direct or produce it.  Keep the original look and feel, just update the production values so that it doesn't seem so grindhouse in quality.

Haha I feel you  strynboen. I was too young to ride when the movie was released. And my  first ride was a scooter...

Fury Road seems like somewhere between the second one and third one.  Not really a remake, I don't think. From what I saw in the previews, he still has the Interceptor, which was destroyed in the second one so it might be set in the time between the original and second one. Looks like a beautifully shot film but I  thought was more of a repeat of the second one with CGI.  Nice to see Hugh Keays-Byrne(who played Toecutter in the original) in the new one, though.

It is sad to see the Hollywood trend of remake or forced sequel.  I once joked about a remake of Red Dawn with North Korea being bad guys. Damned they did just that. They remade The Thing, Straw Dogs, too but no one seems to remember.

I disagree about this one being lame.  Not particularly good - oh yes, it wasn't.  But the original wasn't exactly stellar itself.  The lame attempts at humor didn't help the movie - although the Jackal was without a doubt one of the best 'bad guy' I have ever seen on the screen.  You could easily believe that guy was an assassin for hire.  The remake was just so different from the original that it hardly resembled it.

Let's talk about the 3rd!! remake of The Thing ::)

The new Mad Max movie looks not only damn good, but bad-a$$.  Not a remake.  George Miller (same director for all 4 movies) says Max is like Bond -- not bound by the realities of time.

Mad Max was a great cult movie; The Road Warrior was the apex; and Beyond Thunderdome sucked rocks.  I'm looking forward to this new one.

As far as remakes go, I got to say I thought the latest King Kong was genius.  You have to watch the 1933 version first though to get the full effect.  It was as if the 2005 version was what "really happened," and the 1933 version was the "movie" made out of it.  I think that was Peter Jackson's intention.  I thought it was a really clever interpretation.

As a guy that's fallen way out of the loop as far as movies go, I'm looking forward to the new Mad Max.
