New Guys looking for parts
« on: August 21, 2013, 04:28:35 AM »
Good morning everyone I'm now the lucky owner of a 1973 CB 750. Overall the bike is in good shape but as I go through it I'm going to need some trust worthy sources for some parts. First in line, I'd like to find handlebars that are either in good shape or someone who makes an aftermarket bar that are close to the original. The bike is right out of the seventies with high riser bars (And Back rest) that need to go. Any help would be appriciated.

Thanks Dan

Welcome to the forum. As far as parts go, if I'm buying brand new OEM I'll order from www.partzilla.com. They seem to be the least expensive I've found. As far as the more hard to come by parts, I'll start here in the parts forum: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?board=34.0 and see if anyone else has what I'm looking for otherwise I'll bite the bullet and order off eBay.

I know a popular bar option to keep the somewhat stock look are the euro bars. They are lower than stock bar but still pretty comfortable.

Welcome Dan.   When buying bars, best to get new so you know they won't be bent.
Aftermarket bars are pretty cheap,$38 or less.
Do the current bars have the wiring running through them?

CB750 has a good selection....

Both Stev-o & wowbagger make good points. The hard part for me was finding the right rise and I like the euro bars wow mentions. and don't for get get the bars THEN measure for cables you should be able to go with stock length with those euro but best to measure first.

Good point, you will need new cables and brake line. All are reasonably priced.

I'm looking for something as close to stock as possible, just for looks. I like keeping my bikes as close to stock as possible especially the old ones. I know I'll need cables and will need to check wires to see what the did when the high risers were installed. As far as I know this bike has been sitting in a garage for probably 25 years or more. I'm going to need keys and go through everything over the winter. I can find parts all over the place but being new to old Hondas (I have other vintage bikes) I need to know who I can trust to find NOS or good reproductions. Thanks for any advise,I hope to have this bike up and running by the spring.

From CB750 Supply:

CB750K (1973) OEM Stock Type Handlebar - Chrome

Width 28 1/4", Rise 3"

Pullback 4" x 7/8"Dia.

Note: Drilled for wires
Part #: 25-1072

Just a suggestion: I would get it running first before tearing it down. Have you tried to kick it over?

The motor is stuck but you'd expect that from a bike that has been sitting for 25+ years. The plan is to 1) get motor free 2) get a key, 3) clean carbs 4) change oil and filter 5)  get a battery 6) check ignition and see  what happens.

Congrats on your 1973 750 K3.

The OEM correct bars for your K3 are tough to find, but not impossible even though they have been discontinued by Honda. The good news is that other 750 models used the same bars, part number: 53100-341-700. These same bars are found on the 750 K3/K4/K5/K6 and the 1975 & 1976 750 F0/F1 bikes. I haven’t seen any aftermarket bars with the correct dimensions that allow the OEM cables & upper brake hose to have the proper factory fit and look. Sure, used bars present the risk of being bent or tweaked, but I’ll take that chance. The parts for sale/wanted classifieds on this forum are good place to start as members are knowledgeable with their parts, unlike some eBay sellers.

Everyone has their favorite suppliers, some of mine are:

DSS (UK)  http://www.davidsilverspares.co.uk/

Z1 (USA)  http://www.z1enterprises.com/

Yamiya (JPN) http://www.yamiya750.com/

Along with your cylinder soaking concoction, I would suggest using the rotor mounting bolt (#12) to turn the engine.

Welcome to the forums.

Good advice Dream.

BTW, you do know DSS has a location in US now, right?

Thanks Stev-o  ;)

Yes, I knew about DSS-USA, but I haven't done any business with them to date. Reason being is, they don’t list the 750 European/export model parts that I sometimes like to use.

Thanks guys, This is the info I've been looking for. I have to pick this thing up on Saturday so I'm sure I'll have a better idea on what I'll need. I won't be riding this until spring so I can wait out getting the best handlebars set up I can find. There was a set on ebay but they looked pretty rusty.

Has anyone tried these
http://www.z1parts.net/product/honda-cb750-handle-bar-1973-1976-k3-k6

I haven't bought those but did buy bars from them for my Z1. Very good quality, none of their parts are from China.  Buy em...
