Topic: Clutch cover removal - 77 CB550K

Am trying to remove the clutch cover on my 1977 CB550k so that I can polish it up.  I got the 10 philips head screws out and pulled the foot peg and kick starter but that baby is not budging. Am I missing something or is it just stuck from 29 years of being on there.   I have been taping on it with a rubber mallet to try and lossen it up but it is not budging.  I also pulled the dip stick and tried to get a good grip on it with my hands but no dice.   I am afraid to pry it apart with a screw driver for fear of messing it up.

Any advise/suggetions.  Thanks

They stick pretty good, I had to hit the hell out of mine with a rubber mallet the first time I took it off.

For what it's worth, mine stuck on the kickstarter spline the first time I took it off (Empasize first time. I took it off about four times before I got the clutch right. It comes off easier on subsequent attempts). Try a little WD40 around the kicktstarter shaft and rap on it with the rubber hammer. Don't pry the cases, The aluminum is soft and easy to mar.

Oh, I just saw yours is a 550K. Mine is a 750K. I never worked on a 550. Don't know if configuration is the same......

Try adjusting all the slack out of the clutch and apply the clutch with the cover screws removed. The force of the clutch springs might help pop it off.. Worth a try.

OK - I beat the snot out of it with the rubber mallet and it finally came off.  I think it was hung up on the dowel by the kick starter.  Thanks All
