75 CB550 Front Brake and MC rebuild questions.
« on: August 25, 2013, 11:37:31 AM »
I am completely rebuilding my 75 CB550 and am currently working on the front brakes and master cylinder. I am looking at Spiegler for custom hoses. A shorter one for the top since I am using clubman bars. (This one I have figured out) The bottom one I will keep the stock length but need to know what the fitting is that I need. The fitting is a female one that I am unsure of the thread. They show either a M10 X 1.00 or a M10 X 1.25. Does anyone one know off hand which is correct for this bike. I will still use the original pipe from the hose to the caliper. My second question is: Since I am rebuilding the entire brake system can I change from DOT3 to DOT5 brake fluid?

Part answer to your question...yes you can run DOT5, but I'm not sure why you would.  It's a real pain in the ass to bleed.  You'd be perfectly fine with DOT 3 or 4.

Thanks for the info. Just wondering, what makes it so hard to bleed?
