The reason xylene improves gas mileage has something to do with chemical bonds. I'm not Walter White so honestly I don't know the exact science behind it.

You should have paid closer attention in class, Jessie!

I add 1%acetone and get noticeable performance increase
How was that measured?

Not the Snopes is the be all end all anymore than Wikipedia, but you might want to do more research/

http://www.snopes.com/autos/techno/acetone.asp

Never said increase in gas mileage but noticeable increase in performance
I have no idea why and would like to know

I have experienced the exact same thing but in a car, it was a slug and pinged its head off under load on its recommended fuel, I put premium in it after a recommendation from a good mechanic I've known all my life and the car was transformed, it went a hell of a lot better, and I didn't imagine it .... ::)

I tried xylene and couldn't tell any difference at all
Acetone did give a noticeable performance boost and probably far worse mileage (as I used more throttle all the time  ???  ;D )

How about people just run whatever they like and shut the #$%* up about it? Who the #$%* cares.
Hmmm..... Dichotomy?
The reason xylene improves gas mileage has something to do with chemical bonds.

Or not...  Is this actually a reason?   Or, conjecture?   Any thoughts about the chemical bonds of the "rubber" fuel system seals?

Could this exhaustive proof be as meaningful as seeing Jesus on a banana or on a dog's butt?

I heard there is a religious focus group studying the true meaning in the sound "poot".  (Since it WAS uttered by the image of Jesus.)
I speculate it is an old lost language dialect that translates to;  "42" ?

Reminds me of this Jesus tomato I once found.

It is the reason. I cant find the literature at this immediate moment, but there is a whole scientific explanation about how the gasoline bonds to the xylene and creates a cleaner? economical? mixture.
