Pitted/Rust/Drilled

So I had to get another caliper for a 1978 Supersport I manage to pump the piston out like I did for the fronts and here is what I see
It looks like the PO has drilled down where the banjo bolt goes into the caliper. First question is this thing going to work with an enlarged hole and is it safe? Second as you can see by the pics it's a bit rust I haven't gotten to it with a brass wheel which I have seen in here will do the trick but how can you tell if its too far gone I don't believe it is but always like a second opinion on what others may think
Thanks

Don't skimp or take shortcuts with brakes. They keep you safe.
IIWM, I'd find a new one.

I would like to know the logic behind the drilling. Or maybe not. Find a new caliper.
There is a threat here with parts numbers and everything for converting 78SS to modern brake calipers. I would go that way if my caliper was shot.

I can't figure that out either
My guess is it might have been clogged but it looks like they did it on a drill press because it's not torn up very clean
Or maybe better braking power with a bigger hole? Getting a new (used eBay) isn't a problem just a hassle plenty out there for goldwings etc

I believe it's a rear caliper for an SS. I've had my 76 apart and don't remember the hole. Is it possibly stock like that? The rust might clean up, how is the piston? That's the moving part.
If you're in doubt, look for a good one.

I don't know if it's stock like that I'm beginning to think it is the eBay seller said he has another one but it looks the same like it too was drilled out the 2 off the front the holes are smaller unlike just one off the back as is it was twice as large the hole that is so it might make sense
Thoughts?
