Turn Signal help 1971 CB100
« on: August 22, 2013, 11:40:07 AM »
Hey all,

Just bought my girlfriend a 1971 CB100 and it is beautiful, almost perfect stock condition, but the turn signals are not working. I opened up the assembly and found that what appears to be a little ball and probably a brass plate are missing, as well as the two little springs that hold the turn signal lever in place. I only need the metal piece that connects to the terminals in the assembly, but cannot find pictures of it anywhere. I'd hate to pay 80 bucks for a whole new assembly. Does anyone have pictures of a complete turn signal switch assembly and that little metal piece that touches the contacts? Much appreciated.

Patrick

If it is like the switch in my 1971 CB750 there is a small sliding plastic block with contacts on it. The block has a small hole in it where a spring goes in first and then a small BB. The BB is what clicks through the selections for the blinkers. As you slide the outside switch with your thumb the block moves back and forth to the left or right blinker contact. When I work on this stuff I put a white blanket on the floor as these parts are small and hard to hold onto. Hard to believe the block would be missing unless the previous owner took it apart and lost it. The block will not fall out on its own. The only pic I have is below. You can see the plastic block with the contacts on top. The spring and BB go on the opposite site of the contacts. Click the pic to enlarge it...

Do you have a local MC salvage yard w/ any old Honda's around Seattle ? They may let you "look around" & you'll find those parts.

Thanks Johnie! Sorry for the late reply. I didn't get notified that anyone had replied here. Do you think it's something I can rig up myself if I'm missing the BB and spring?

grcamna2, we do have a salvage shop which I called. They didn't sound confident and I haven't made it up to their neck of the woods to prove them wrong.

You do not need the BB or spring to make it operate. Those are mainly to give you the spot were the blinkers will function and will help you find the off position in the middle.

Hmmmm. I must be missing something else then. I'm just not sure what is meeting the contacts to complete the circuit.

I'd get another used switch & either make That one work or use parts from it to repair your switch;there's lot's of 'em on Ebay. it's tedious work though...  ::)
