Crank pressure blowing out seals
« on: August 13, 2006, 12:37:22 PM »
Hello again,
I tried a "cranckase pressure" search and found no results.
My newly purchsed 750-K1 was blowing air pressurel out of the final drive seal after I killed the engine. I replaced the seal and now the pressure (and oil) backs up out of the oil tank cap and sprays all over the place while I'm riding. Yep...I'm a noob on these SOHC ...can anyone offer a suggestion on how to let 'er breath better??
 Thanks, Kevin.

The 750 vents the crank case to the atmosphere. A the back of the engine there should be a vent hoze. See if that is not blocked.
Also excesive preasure buildup is usualy a sign that one ore more cylinders is loosing compression (blow by)

Check the vent hose first. If that is not OK then you will have to do a compression test.

one thing that wil definately, without doubt, also make you vent oil is if you have put too much in in the first place!  Its something maybe even the previous owner did?
It never hurts to change the oil, so, if you havent got a blocked crankcase or breather pipe problem ( make sure all the breather hoses are not blocked or twisted / nipped anywhere) Then it may be worth your while to drain all the oil out from both the tank and the sump and oil filter.............
Then refill WITH NEW oil very carefully measuring the correct amount as stated in the manuel. After first putting in a new filter of course...
Just looking in the tank may not tell you if its been overfilled....it happens. But draining the old out will
( if you measure that!)
Keep us posted.
In my own experience...
It wasn't a Previous Owner who didnt know what he was doing that messed up your bike, it was The Previous owners mate who THOUGHT that HE did.

After the oil change described, always check the oil level right after riding in case you suffer from the "wet sumping syndrome," in which case if you check it later, some oil will have leaked down leading you to believe the oil is low and you will add some. The end result will be too much oil in the system.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

Sound like a P.O. might have made the mistake to connect the venting hose from the valvecover to the oiltank vent.

That effectively stops the crankcase pressure from venting at all!

Cheers

If they are connected together with one continous hose, then YES!

Test it by disconnecting the venthose from the top of the oiltank.

Then route one hose from the valvecover and one hose from the oiltank.

Let them vent into free air by routing them downwards on the inside of the oillines in front of the swingarm pivot.
