Cb350 tank on a cb750?
« on: August 21, 2013, 06:13:51 PM »
My 750k tank looks like a lumpy potato and I'm looking to replace it with something that'll 'plug and play' or almost plug and play. I was thinking something like the cb350 tank. Fuel capacity doesn't bother me if I lose some either, this isn't a distance bike by any means. I will eventually add some knee dents as well:

500 4. Looks pretty good, a bit of modding, same with 70-74 450 twin tanks.. 400 four needs very little to make fit ..not sure about petcock though on that..

My 350F tank dropped on to my 750 frame really well. It was a little shy of lining up with the back rubber mount and you would need a couple small knocks with the hammer on the inside near the rear, but nothing too tricky.

I tried to fit my 350 twin tank on to my 750 frame and the tunnel is too narrow, I started working at it to make it fit, but started to realize I was forcing the idea too much.

Anyone have some shots of a 450 tank on there? I would love to see that.

Tha is for the replies! I also read that the cl450 tanks are almost a direct bolt on tank (with a little massaging)  ;) I'll probably go that route since I'm primarily looking for a shorter tank too.

No that is not going to happen.
It will take work to make your modification boss.

I'm picking up what you're putting down. I'm 6'6 and a lot of leg, so a set tank is plus. Got any tips or tricks to get a cl450 tank on a cb750?

450 tank is shorter than the 750 tank so seat mods will be necessary to fill the gap.
I can think of far better frames to put a turbo gsx 1100 engine into, I mean, it looks great but  :o.......

Read everything Frank  ;)

I mean, it looks great but  :o.......

150hp plus would be a challenge in an old Honda frame at best, which was my point..... :o

Remember that in 1984 the GS1000 and GSX 1100 bikes , 1000 Kawasaki's and others had been around for a while, 10 second street bikes were common by that time, I knew a few guys that had big  kitted GS1000,s GSX1100's, Katana's and Kawasaki's that would pull off 10 passes easily except we built bikes based on race bikes not straight line stuff so none ever saw a 1/4 mile....

This is and was a a street  bike..apoarently the fastest in LA back then...
The cool part, is that he loved his 69 750 and kept using that frame as that is what he liked. It was probuilt , the engine by Vance and Hines..

There can always be faster bikes I guess, but considering who built it,  I assume it was near the top of the heap..its a street bike..not a race bike.. And a real 10second quarter..with time slips..not a race only bike..

Of course in Oz everything was faster handled better , worked better, yada..yada..yada..

Dumb answer Frank   :o  Whats with you lately...?  The GSX1100's were out then, OBVIOUSLY, because thats the engine in that bike... ::)  Do you think that your side of the world were the only ones that built fast bikes..?  You are sadly mistaken. !0 second or 150 MPH bikes were VERY COMMON by 1984, even you should know that. Sure you didn't bang your head while riding round in your world without corners... FFS, read what i said and stop putting words into my mouth......

V&H turbo motor..surely they only set the good ones to. Oz , and left the crap here.. Again not talking. Dragbike with slick.. But hey whatever..
I hung around at the drags a lot in Sturgis..   Around 81, 82 10sec street legal were not common.. But dont take my word for it..Maybe jay remembers the bike and will chime in...

Meanwhile i should maybe not even bother posting this stuff

Thats not what i was talking about Frank, it was sarcastic "the Aussies do everything better yada yada yada" quote, 1984 was late in the life of those engines and 10'second street bikes were not that uncommon, I can name off the top of my head 6 to 8 local guys that were into the big kwaka's and Suzuki's big time, some dead some still here and one  now owns a major motorcycle shop close to where i live, he was a road racer too, anyway, my point was that big HP kwaka's and Suzuki's were not rare, and yes, we had and still have {ever seen our weather? , motorcycle heaven} a very active, 12 months of the year  motorcycle industry.....  why does that surprise you Frank..?  Why do you think we pump out multiple world champion road racers with such a small population...?  Most everyone else is aware of that, seems you may be slightly jealous of it....  It is fact though... 8)

Ok hopefully no. Controversy this time.
The mad Mel bike was in the mag in 84,most of what had been done to it, was in 83 or earlier.
Like most racers..some of us dont spill our guts, and throw all the cards where all can see them
....that said.. This bike did 10second 1/4 miles, in 1980....
... When it still was an 836......... Sohc...
..and it was not a high ten..more respectable than that..

And then Hines, talked Mel into  running Suzuki motor, then it went faster..quite a bit faster and quicker..
