Sparty's Before and After
« on: August 12, 2006, 06:40:32 PM »
Guys,

I am nearing 100% completion on my bike.  I just finished my clubman bars and snapped a pic.  I was holding out until the bike was totally finished, but I couldn’t resist.

My 4 into 1 exhaust will be installed mid August and my café seat is being built.  Once those items are installed, the bike will be 100% complete until next summer’s project.

The first picture is what the bike looked like on the day I bought it in May of this year.

The second two pictures are what the bike looked like as of 7:30PM this evening.

Later,
Sparty

I really like the profile you cut your rear fender at.  That line looks really good.
Nice color also ;D

I like it allot! It looks so British to me. Makes me wonder how it would look with Norton style pea shooters on it. Hmmmmmmmm

I also noticed the rear fender right off.Could you post a close up pic of it? I was thinking about grafting 2 fenders together to make it shorter but retain the ribbing on the edges. I bought one on Ebay last year that has a standard H-D tail light on it. I like the tail light but would prefer the shorter fender.

That is seriously beautiful! The rear end really is well done  ;)

Would you mind posting what all you did?
Im interested in the paint color and what type of application it was?

Thanks.

The only thing that I didn't do to the bike was the paint.  I did all of the body work on the side covers and gas tank.  I cut the rear fender just above the point of where the rear brake light would mount.  I cut the fender long to see how it would look and if I didn't like the shape I would cut off another two inches, but I left it long because I like how it turned out.  I also have the other piece of the fender and it also fits, but is a bit shorter.  I can interchange the two if I wish.... Just for something different.

I did so much mechanical stuff to the bike that the list is very long.  Let's just say that I would work on it several days and evenings per week since I bought it in May.  I have put close to $2000 into the project, not including the $700 I paid for the bike.  My Yoshi exhaust will be $1000 and will arrive the middle of Aug. and my cafe' seat will be close to $400.   So that jacks up the investment to $3400.

The engine is now a Wiseco 836cc with 10.25:1 compression.  IT RIPS!

I have a Dynatek electronic ignition with Dyna coils.

The carbs are from a '78 CB750.

I installed a K&N filter, but I will most likely be going to pods in the spring.

The paint color is called platinum denim (metallic) and it is a HD color.  The paint was applied by a professional at a paint shop with a down draft booth and climate control.  There are four coats of sealer primer, six coats of paint and four coats of a low gloss clearcoat.

Sparty

I am very curious, just how does an 836 run? Will it stand up in first gear or second? How will it run in a straight line to a CBR 600? It sure is a pretty thing. Can't wait to see the end result.

Would you mind posting a pic from straight behind?

I like the rear indicators! Will you use them up front too?

So why are you running 78' carbs? I thought they were the pain in the ass unadjustables? Anyhow ,it's a real sweet lookin ride and I am going to nominate it for bike of the month! Maybe again after the yosh & seat.

From the rear...okay...

I plan on shopping for front indicators over the winter months.  I am looking at something in the diamond shape, the bullets only look good in the rear.

The '78 carbs are a pain in the ass... I think that there must be something wrong with me.  Actually, the PO put them on, I am getting a different carb setup next spring.  Here is what they look like:

Thanks for the nice words.

The 836 runs strong, it pulls to redline like a freight train.  It will get the front tire up in both 1st and 2nd, but I am keeping both tires planted.  I don't need to impress anyone.   A CBR600 is both lighter and faster, so...   However, there aren't many 530 pound bikes that could keep up with it.  I was told that with my new exhaust and carbs that my rear wheel HP will increase significantly = low to mid 80s.  I know someone who will dyno it for me.  I'll keep ya posted.
