carb questions
« on: August 24, 2013, 12:44:11 PM »
I tore into the rack again today to raise the needle in hopes of fixing the stutter between 5800-6200RPM without resorting to a rejet.  I remembered after seeing again the thin metal piece that connects two of the carb arms had broken the last time I was wrenching on them.
Is this piece a real necessity?
I also noticed that the choke butterflies are not perfectly horizontal when the choke is off.  I never changed it from stock and wondered if a slight resistance would hurt.  It is off horizontal by 1/8th of an inch or so.

That metal tab is a locking tab that is broken.
Just leave it alone for now. Bend the short end down. On the side with the long end you could shorten it and bend it down.

It keeps those locking nuts from getting loose.

I would order one from Bike Bandit.
It is an OEM part.

Choke butterflies do not necessarily need to be completely horizontal when fully open.
Leave it alone.

its not a locking tab lucky, its a sort of flexible equalizer so the slides lift uniformly, you can delete them no worries, ive run a few engines without them and couldnt tell any problem.

I will go with Dave500 on this advice about the tab since he knows these carbs in detail.
Thanks Dave.
