I should have remembered this.. Check out the video.. His sounds like it is tuned well.. No lean factor on decel

1976 CB550 w MotoGP Werks pipe

He gives his settings...
Main Jet: 110

Pilot Jet: 38

Air Screw: 1 full turn out

Needle: 3rd notch from the top

The tuning is spot on for this engine. The video was on a bench synch only. Now that I've done a vac synch, she idles as smooth as silk and pulls hard to 9,000rpm in all gears. Good luck

Stock air box yes with uni foam filter.... I have the same bike as the video minus the pod filters... Isn't 3rd notch from the top stock needle position?

Sounds horrible.
Idle is way too high . Popping still going on too.
The 1976 CB750(EDIT: Sorry I meant CB550) has the needle at 4th clip position from the top stock.
So the needle position is leaner now than when it was stock!

When you cannot get the idle to come down that means something.
 See what I mean?

Answer...no  4th position down from the top is stock on the 1976.
Also the idle jet on the 1976 CB550 K was #40 not 38. See chart below.
Gets confusing.

Anyway the bike in the video is not running right at all.

Clarification : The idle jets are dependent on the model n0# of the carb.

The 1976K  087A             22mm float   100 main   38 idle   4th notch.
The 1976K 657B & 086A   26mm float   105 main   40 idle   4th notch.
1975-77 CB550F  069A    22float           98   main   38idle   2nd notch.
74-75     CB550K  022A   22float           100 main   38 idle   4th notch.

You have to know which carbs are being worked on.

I thought it was high but also put into consideration of the pods.. Hence thinking maybe it sounds like it may sound like it is idling higher then it really is...

Shoot I don't know.

Now I wish greg would post a video of his..

I had pretty whitish gray spark plugs with my exhaust running #100 and when I went to go put the #105s in (knowing the pipe was going to lean it out) I noticed my plugs were pretty dark....but my WOT was pulling pretty dang good.... And really hesitate in the 1/4-3/4 throttle range.... I just lowered the needle today (clip 3rd down from top) and it eliminated all hesitation and pulling full range... Just needs to be synced... :) I'll post a video of it when it's all synced and nice but the pipe is great... Has a nice deep growl to it

Yup, no center stand with motogp werks or carpy or lossa (same design).  With the motogp though, one 10 mm and two springs to take off the secondary and you can use the center stand again for service and stuff.  Pretty nice setup.

Main jets 105's
idle jets 40's.
mixture screws 3/4 out.

Forum member "one wheel drive" has this set up.
Only problem is he did not give the year.

Kerker 4 into 1 with baffle.
stock air box.
Unifoam filter.

What is the needle position lucky? I have that same setup except I think leaned the needle one notch from stock... Still dialing in the mixture screws

I see youre shopping for size 40 idle jets, What happen to stock 38 and needle clip in middle notch?

The 38s with 105 main worked better than 40s with 105... It's funny because with 38 it looks a little lean and with 40 it's toasted black and running like poo

The needle on the slide.
That needle goes up and down THROUGH the main jet.
The needle controls 1/4-3/4 throttle. VERY IMPORTANT.

When you move the needle clip DOWN it raises the needle and makes the mixture richer.

Just stop putting so much importance on that main jet.
It only comes into play at about 3/4 throttle.

I actually have the needle clip one stop lean....I believe... (Not in the 4th position but the 3rd from the top)... Maybe the stock position with 38 will be the answer
