Greetings from Central Illinois
« on: August 26, 2013, 08:04:48 AM »
Name is John. I created an introduction post a few months back but was never able to get pics of my bike. It is a 1977 CB400F. My father purchased this bike in 1981. The original owner repainted the tank and side covers, but the bike is otherwise completely original. It has been sitting in my father's garage untouched since around 1993 when it was last started. We've looked everything over on the bike and are currently cleaning up and rebuilding the carbs. We'll also need to rebuild the fron caliper and replace the original front tire. Rear tire was replaced just before parking and still shows now cracking or anything. Mileage shows 8841 original miles. So you know how clean the bike is, we have not done any cleaning to the frame, body, engine or wheels at all. The is the exact state in which it was parked 20 years ago. I've very proud of it and can not wait to get it on the road again.

Great looking bike and a story to go with it.

I would replace both tires, they age even when parked.  Tires over 5 years old are considered unsafe and since tires keep you on the road, I would definitely spent the money.

Welcome!

Thanks for the advise. I will most certainly look into it if that's the case.
