cb 750 fork tubes

Hi everyone. its been awhile since I last posted some updates for my 750 k4 build. Still plugging away at it. I thought I would share some mods I did to the fork tubes I got from Cycle X. To start with the tubes I have been seeing for sale by companies have a large diameter bushing hole (for the large diameter fork dampers). Well my factory tubes just so happened to have the small diameter dampers in them. What to do....well in the pics you see I took the stock tubes and carefully cut the outer ring that protrudes from the tube that holds the aluminum bushing in. Once cut, I pulled the bushing out and had a friend turn down the outside diameter of the bushing so it would fit the new tubes but be able to press them in. (basically block of wood and mallet) with red locktight. The first picture is the stock tube next to the new tube(note larger inner diameter of the new tube)

second picture is the bushing of the original tube removed... Now note that when these bushings are removed there is a spring steel washer  and small washer like piece with 4 cut outs in it.. This is the piece that damper rod actually rides against inside the tube. I will post some pics of these pieces ...The last pictures are the bushings pressed into new tubes..And VOILA' ...tubes that you can now use with the small diameter dampers ;D

if you look at picture jpeg 2302  you will see a small hole inside the tube. this is the damper washer(what the damper really rides against inside the tube). When you press the bushing into the new tube ...the bushing should be pressed in just far enough so there is still slight side to side movement of the damper washer but very little up and down. (basically the spring washer behind the damper washer keeps it a friction fit without rattling around loose in the tube. the picture of these deep recessed type washers were actually the holders for the damper washer and spring washer, They can't be installed in the new fork tubes. jpeg (2311)
