as you get closer to the paton the speed of the pit stop will become more important , a basic one is only a rev limiter that is operated by a button on the handlebar . this might be worth a go next year . the balance between speed and reliability is difficult to get right at the island , you always want to win but the place kills engines at the best of times ! . for me the important thing would be to keep the rider he's fast smooth and kind on the bike a very rare combination with modern riders used to riding modern bikes . good luck with the 350 !

Congratulation on building such a beautiful and competitive machine. I would love to get my paws on some of those 2 ring pistons. Who makes them for you, and also the alloy liners. Any info on where to get these parts.  :P

I will ask JD about the pistons. As for the liners a friend up in Liverpool does the alloy liner conversion and then sends them out for Nikasil coating.
Simon, you are right about the rider. William D is an really smooth rider and excellent on the smaller bikes with high corner speed.JD approached him to ride for that reason. Horses for courses as they say. You wouldn't put a Shire horse at Aintree for the National :-) u know what I mean....

Less luck in the 350 Junior today...
William retired on 1st lap on the 350/4. Alan retired to the pits at the end of lap 2 having held 3rd place on the twin. The drop out rate today was very high. Only 3 bikes completed the race in the 250 class. 3rd place man was 8 minutes behind second, it was so strung out.

just out of curiosity, what's the fastest lap a cb750 ever managed on the tt?

am i right in suspecting this is the fastest ever honda sohc on the island or did alan jackson on his F2 500/600 go faster back in the late 70's?

i think this was much faster, from memory bud lapped at about the 100mph mark in each of the three years he won it . i could ring him but i would have to listen to an detailed account of all three victories , and i would have lost the will to live by the time we got to 1979.

very much doubt it , they stopped racing them in the 70's and the circuit was quite alot slower in those days . its the same course but trees have been cut down , corners opened up and its much much smoother these days if you add to  this the shell grip tarmac on the mountain and the improvement in tyres you can see why the classics now are much faster than they where in the day .

I think the fastest was Phil Read in 77 on the F1 bike (820cc) and he only lapped at 101.74.
Alan Jacksons record lap was in the F2 in 79 where he recorded 104.40 mph.
Johns bike might well be the fastests SOHC4 to go round the mountain, well done that man and William.

For all the UK members on this forum, this bike should have some good coverage on ITV4 tonight at 9 p.m. A 2 hour TV show dedicated to the 3 Classic TT races from last Saturday and Monday.  :)

Although not SOHC (or even Honda), my own 1989 Yamaha OW01 750 made a good show of itself in the Formula 1 race too. I wasn't the jockey BTW, (oh how I wish I had the skill and balls to ride that hard), look out for bike number 19 (black number on white plate) :o

Thanks Simon.

TBH the thanks should go to Ryan for his riding skills, Dave Molyneux for working long hours at short notice in preparing the bike and Dave Hagen for builing the engine, again at very short notice. Not bad for a little 750 (stock engine, not tuned, just very well put together) against those "monster" 1250 Suzukis.

Sorry to hijack the thread HondaFreak and very well done on your second place.  8)

There is #$%* all we can do about stavros and close eyes, I am sorry :( but the racing at the classic tt was great. Despite itv4 and their efforts.

Interestingly it was not the same production company as usual. In the past it was greenlight, who the mgp have used again this year. Classic tt was different one. Dont know if that made any difference. Mind u, better some coverage than none. We will see how visitor numbers stack up with the revised format.
