CB350F header/muffler question.
« on: August 28, 2013, 04:19:39 PM »
If I were to use stock headers that were cut a couple of inches short but retained stock diameter, would any of the pipes listed on Dime City as fitting my bike still work or would my options be more limited?

Are you set on using the old headers?
What are you going for in the build?
For the money, you would probably be better off just buying a full exhaust.
I would argue that for the looks you would probably be better off too... but maybe you have some fab fab skillz.   ;D

I'm just replacing some old straight in pipes with no headers. I was thinking about getting stock headers and then just putting some new pipes on, I wanna do 4 into 4. I can get some headers from someone for a decent price, but they're cut down a couple of inches. I'm new to this, so I'm just wondering what my options are and how much of a difference those couple of inches will make, before I just start buying pipes I think look good.

Basically, I want a relatively stock look/feel without trying to track down good stock pipes and breaking the bank on them.

Megs/cone engineering has some nice exhaust components.  Their two into one collector's might come in handy with a reverse cone muffler.  It might run you $175 a side.  Real friendly folks.  Give them a call with the OD of your header pipes, and note the slight separation of the pipes on the left side.  This will need a workaround....
Or, an aftermarket exhaust....easy peasy.

Cool, I'll check them out. So if I buy those cut headers I can use them. Is it the kind of thing where I can't just buy a set of pipes I like that would fit a 350F because the length is different and I'd need something made?

@flybox1 What exactly do you mean by "slight separation on the left"?

IIRC the separation between the #1 & #2 header running along and under the shift lever is due to the placement of the kickstand mount.  it doesnt allow these two header pipes to nestle together for a nice clean fit into a 2-1 collector.
post up a picture from each side showing the headers running along and under the engine...

I see what you mean. I don't actually have the headers yet, so I can't take reference photos.

Has anyone used CB550 exhaust components on a 350F? And are there ways to lengthen the headers, if need be? Like some attachments?

@flybox1 That's funny - those are the exact headers I was considering.

Does anyone know what the stock outside diameter for 350F headers is?
