Wheel Spacer Ideas...
« on: August 30, 2013, 07:03:17 PM »
I'm using a different rear wheel on my project and need a smaller spacer. Can I just cut down the original one as long as the sprocket side stays in the same spot ?

I had some originals turned down on a metal lathe on the brake side and never had any problems with it did the same on the front end too.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

Technically you could do it with a grinder and files. You just gotta be attentative and not limp wristed with that grinder.

It is a meaty piece and you would want to get relatively tight to your measurement you need. NASA specifications not necessary but getting pretty on is. Go for it, I would.

I would use my grinder, then my dremel and then files to knock down stuff and make it nicer for the appearance

Or take it to a local machine shop with the required dimension.  Should be at least a ten minute job for somebody.

The shorter they are, theharder to fit in a lathe..
If you use a grinder and calipers, or a small square, and file you can. Get it good enough.
