1974 Honda CB 750 front forks
« on: January 14, 2020, 05:34:32 PM »
This evening I removed my front forks and, as expected, they are rusty as f*ck. I pretty much assumed I would be replacing the fork tubes but will I have to replace the triple trees as well? It was getting late and I didn't get a chance to have a proper look at them.

Why would you have to replace the triple trees?

Would the mating surfaces not be damaged when I pulled the rusty tubes over them?

Why would you have to replace the triple trees?

I wouldn't give up on those forks either.  The rust is up high, above the seals.  Evaporust, wire wheel, etc.  They can be saved. Probably. 8)

I sand the rust down with soapy water and 320 black wet and dry,put a coat of wax on them and slide'em back in. If you were eliminating the fork ears then they would look pretty ratty.

It depends how deep the rustis...I cleaned mine off there was 1/16 inch material missing in some spots. At the time did not have a spare so I ran it.. it's going to bend or break if I hit something...
